Chapter 23

"Jaemin." Rena said, shaking the boy. Come on, wake up. She tried to use her powers but remember she didnmt have them anymore.

Curse being human.

"Rena." Jaemin's voice was dry and hoarse, but Rena didn't care. He has spoken. She clung tightly to his body as if her life depended on it.

"Jaemin, you're alive." Rena cried into him as she held onto him tightly. "I thought I had lost you, forever."

Jaemin ran his finger over the tiny inch of skin on her cheek.

"I would never leave you." Jaemin said to her. He squinted as he looked behind her. "Rena, what the hell did you do to get to me?"

Rena gulped. This was the question she didn't want to answer.

"Don't worry about it, we're together now, that's all that matters." Rena said as she laced their fingers, the touch sending sparks through her body which was weaker than she had ever felt before.

Rena felt Jaemin run his thumb over the vein in her palm and gulped. "You're human."

"I told you, it doesn't matter." Rena said but even in his weakened state, Jaemin was much stronger than her, pushing her away from him.

"Stay away. I'll drain you."

Ouch. Rena bit her lip as sat up on the ground staring at the boy. Jaemin had his eyes closed.

"No." Rena said firmly as she made her towards him but Jaemin opened his eyes again, making her freeze in her position.

"Don't make me compel you." Jaemin threatened, his eyes red and fangs beginning to show. Rena took a deep breath.

"You need blood." Rena insisted.

"Human blood, not yours." Jaemin replied. Rena scoffed, putting her arm out.

"I'm human, so drink."

"No." Jaemin replied.

Suddenly, the purple walls around them fell and so did the chains holding Jaemin back. Rena looked around to see Sora's mother lying on the floor, dead, with a sword through her chest. Renjun stood above her, tears flowing down his face as Yangyang and Haechan comforted him.

"Rena, you have five seconds to run." Jaemin said, knocking Rena out of her thoughts.

"Or else, what?" Rena said, raising an eyebrow.

"Why are you so freaking stubborn." Jaemin muttered. Rena could tell that he was struggling to hold himself back.

Rena tilted her neck, exposing her vein, and closed her eyes. She knew that any moment now, Jaemin would break and give in.

This is the only way he'll live. Rena told herself as she heard a swoosh and felt his arms holding her.

It'll just be a little pinch, Rena thought as she felt Jaemin dig his fangs into her neck. The pain was great for her human body and she knew Jaemin was drinking at an alarmingly fast rate.

"Jaem." Rena whimpered as she dug her nails into his torso but she knew he couldn't hear her.

It'll all be fine, right?

That was Rena's last thought before the world turned black.

"Rena!" The sound of Jiwoo's voice made them all turn their heads towards Jaemin and Rena. It also woke Jaemin from whatever trance he was in as he immediate removed his fangs from her body but it was too late.

"Jaemin, what did you just do?!" Haechan exclaimed, letting go of Renjun to run towards the fallen girl Jaemin was clutching in his arms. Renjun quickly wiped his tears before glancing at Jaehyun.

"We'll talk about this later." Renjun said before glancing at Doyoung and Yangyang. The three of them made their way towards Jaemin and Rena, where the rest of the agents were beginning to gather.

Rena's blood had already fully healed the boy, Jaemin was practically glowing as he stood there, holding her limp body. He placed her down on the ground gently, lying Rena down.

"I told her to run, ugh, she's so stupid for not listening." Jaemin said as he shook her. Doyoung shoved the agents over, moving so that he was beside her.

"This is no good, her pulse might as well be gone." Doyoung said after feeling her wrist.

"Please tell me you at least fed her your blood." Jeno said but Jaemin shot him a glare.

"Does it look like I did?!" Jaemin exclaimed, motioning to Rena. Doyoung held up his hand.

"Now's not the time to argue, we need to think." Doyoung instructed. The agents settled down.

"How did she even become human in the first place?" Johnny asked. Doyoung exchanged glances with Renjun.

"A spell." Jaehyun said softly, making them all turn towards him. The male had his head bowed and stayed far from them. "Sora's mother casted a spell and there was smoke and then it disappeared into a necklace."

It can't be, Renjun thought and judging by the way Doyoung was staring at him, he knew he was thinking the same thing.

"Jaehyun, get the necklace." Doyoung instructed. Jaehyun didn't hesistate to search the body on the ground, returning with the same ruby necklace Renjun had in mind.

"Why do you two have that look on your faces?" Yangyang asked as Doyoung took the necklace from Jaehyun.

"That's an old witch heirloom. Those necklaces are used to store the auras, the powers of supernaturals. It gives the wearing more power." Doyoung told them.

"Sora's mother didn't turn Rena into a human, she removed her demon power, her aura, that's why she felt weak." Renjun explained. Doyoung nodded his head in agreement.

"So you mean..." Jaemin's voice trailed off.

"That's right. Rena's still demon. She just doesn't feel like one but deep down, it's still there." Doyoung answered the question without Jaemin even asking. They all turned to the girl lying on the cold floor, who seemed to barely be alive.

"So how do we turn her back to normal?" Haechan asked. Doyoung held the necklace up.

"I'm pretty sure we need to break this but you should all stand back." Doyoung advised. "We need to make sure Rena's aura can find her way back to her body."

They all moved as far away as possible, creating a circle around the girl. Doyoung passed the necklace to Jaemin.

"When I move back to join the rest, I need you to crush this, with your hands. The shards will probably dig into your palm and draw blood but that's okay. Let the blood drip down from your hands and into her mouth." Doyoung instructed as he placed the necklace in Jaemin's palm.

"Wait, why me?" Jaemin asked as Doyoung began taking steps backwards to join the rest of them. He stopped once Jaemin finished asking the question.

"You don't know?" Doyoung asked. Jaemin shook his head.

"I don't understand, please explain." Jaemin told him.

"You drank her blood, right?" Doyoung asked. Jaemin nodded. Doyoung gave him a small smile.

"Jaemin, you drank the blood of a demon, not a human. That makes you two blood-bonded forever now."
