"Oh, no," Edmund groaned with immediate regret.
"Edmund, what did you just think of?" Lucy demanded.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Edmund rushed to the side, the others behind him.
There, in the water, was a giant, green, and scaly object that looked like a rock, but Camille knew it was no object.
"Look!" Lucy cried in horror as the thing began to move.
Camille gulped.
"It's too late!" Roop yelled. "Too late!"
"Caspian!" Camille cried, "It's under the boat!"
The ship moved sharply to port, causing everyone to be thrown around like dice.
Picking themselves up, everyone on board gasped in horror as a giant sea serpent rose out of the waves and screeched horrifically. It was like a creature out of a nightmare.
"Gael!" Lucy screamed. The girl had run to the port side of the ship when the serpent moved.
Lucy darted across the ship, grabbed Gael, and ran back to relative safety. "Run," she told the girl.
The men and Camille unleashed their swords. Marcus clutched his weapon with both hands while Pearl poised herself protectively in front of Gael.
The serpent was ugly from the top of its head to it's endless tail. It was a ghastly green color with scaly, bumpy skin and a long snout which had spiky hair sticking out. When it screeched, it's mouth was huge and a deadly black color. The screech itself rocked the boat like a mighty gust of wind. To Marcus however, the serpent seemed so familiar. A surge of recognition flooded over him as if a bolt of lightning had struck him. It was the same serpent who killed the king in his dream and the woman in the magic mirror.
Suddenly, a red-orange glow lit up the sky, pulling Marcus from his trance. Eustace crashed on scene, sending a blast of fire exploding from his mouth and lighting the serpent's nose on fire. Eustace latched onto the sea monster, clawing and biting while Reepicheep drew his sword and stabbed the giant snake repeatedly.
The serpent thrashed around wildly, sending Reep flying into the ropes of the ship's sail.
"Eustace, hang on!" Reep yelled at the dragon.
Eustace did hang on as long as he could before being thrown off. Catching himself in mid-air, Eustace flew around the ship and went back to attack again, but this time the serpent was ready. It seized the dragon in its mouth and dove under the water. They came back up and Eustace was thrown against a large rock. Eustace looked done for, but he gave one last effort, sending a jet of fire into the face of the serpent, causing it to screech in agony before plunging back under the water to put the fire out.
Quite unexpectedly, Lord Roop, whom everyone had forgotten when Eustace attacked, pushed through the crowd and launched his sword at the dragon where it was buried into his side.
"Out, you creature!" The Lord yelled.
Marcus's eyes widened. The Lord clearly didn't know that the dragon was on their side.
"The sword!" Caspian exclaimed.
With a roar of agony, Eustace flew off away from the crew.
"Eustace!" Lucy yelled. "Come back!" But the dragon disappeared.
"We're doomed!" Someone cried.
Lord Roop forced his way up to the poop deck where the wheel was. "Fools!" He cried. "Turn this ship about!"
