"So, what exactly do you want to buy?" Sin nudged me as we walked the streets of a foreign city we'd never been to before. The evening sun was turning color while I thought for a moment. There were a few things I actually needed to buy, but other things I wanted to look at. So I guess we had to make a night of it.
"I need band-aids, and alcohol wipes. You need to find shoe inserts because you've wearing down your shoes, and I know it hurts your heel. But after that we can get some souvenirs," I stretch my arms out in front of me to come to a stop before looking over at Sin. He was looking at his shoes with a smirk on his face. Always such a big, goofy kid.
Sin points forward as a way to say 'Keep moving', and continue down the street. Occasionally our eyes wandered to little shops, or restaurants as we passed but never deciding to go into any. "So, are we going to a general store, or some kind of pharmacy?" He asked with definite confusion in his voice. I had forgotten he hasn't really left Korea before the tour, and any other break we've had we chose to sleep.
"In America they have big stores with Pharmacies inside, or pharmacies with a lot of general store items in them," I explained just as we reached our planned destination. "Though we have similar things back home, inside might seem a little odd. So bare with it."
For what it was worth, this was a small adventure in the middle of an emotional rollercoaster. So when we stepped in the door it wasn't too surprising that Daejung's eyes darted everywhere. Compared to our usual tiring work, absolutely anything could bring excitement to our day.
"Can I please buy that shrinky blouse thing?" Daejung points to a basket filled with small balls of fabric no bigger than hair scrunchies. The sign on the basket illustrated that they were compressed shirts that shrink back down when you take them off. It was an odd want, but I nodded and he skipped over happily.
Sometimes I have absolutely no idea what was going through his head, but it felt better to not question it. I watched him dig through the basket for a moment before striding off into a random aisle. I had no rhyme, or reason for weaving through the store. Just wanted to kill time, and see what other oddities were around.
Daejung apparently figured out I had walked away because from where I was standing there was a mirror on the ceiling of the store that reflected the aisles, and his reflection was flittering around quickly like a lost child. It was a wonder how he made it to adulthood on his on his own. From the look of it he realized the mirror was there, and locked eyes with me in out reflections.
"(Y/N)," his voice whined as he rounded the corner to find me. "Don't just disappear like that" I shrugged with a small smile whole my hand grazed over a section of holiday cards neatly on display. As Sin babbled about finding his shoe inserts I read over multiple cards. I felt the need to buy a few, to try to express how I feel. I needed to apologize to, and thank some of the people in my life right now. Things have been different lately. I've had so many opportunities, and had lots of different experiences.
"Dae- is there a reason things happen?" He looked perplexed by my question, and fumbled with office supplies beside me. With a sigh he leaned into my shoulder. "I think so, but I'll never understand why life decides to torture people so much. May there's a god out there who just likes to watch us suffer."
That was enough shopping for one day. We high tailed it over to the check-out counter with our items, and quickly pay so we can get back to the hotel. The original plan was to make a day of it, but the serious talk I had started changed the mood entirely. It seemed better to just order room service, and take time to ourselves inside.
"Race you back?"
"You're on, but don't get lost!"
