Princess Amelia of Illea

April 10th, 2010

I sat beside Will in the car as we drove towards the RAF base where we would be visiting today. I have been in London for about a week and I will stay for another while Will and I continue to plan the wedding.

"Are you nervous?" Will asked as he leaned over and took my hand into his.

"A bit. This is my first public appearance in London as your fiance. Plus I have lunch with your grandmother in three days." I explained and Will smiled.

"You have nothing to worry about. The people here love you."

"Really? I'm pretty positive I read online that some call me a german speaking whore." I said as the car turned and I saw we had arrived at the base and was pulling in. I saw Will stare at me from the corner of my eye but I smiled at him.

"Come on. It's time for me to meet your friends." I said as the car stopped and our security detail got out to open the doors for us. I slid to the end of my seat and stepped out before waving softly to the crowd that was waiting for us.

I turned and saw Will waiting for me and I stepped closer to him before we were greeted with the leaders of the RAF.

"Amelia this is Air Chief Marshal Mike Wigston," Will said as he introduced me to the first man. He bowed his head to me before standing straight and sticking his hand out.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Your Royal Highness," Mike stated and I smiled as I shook his hand.

"The pleasure is all mine. I am very excited to be here visiting your base. I wonder how different it is to the ones we have at Illea."

Mike stared at me for a moment before smiling as he turned to lead us inside.

'How many airbases do you have in Illea?"

"About three but last I heard we might build another one. Many people sign up for the air force or military in Illea once they reach of age." I explained and I saw Will smirk as he walked a bit behind me.

"And in Illea, the air force is under the control of your eldest sister? Crown Princess Anna-Marie correct?"

"Yes, my sister does control the air force. Before her was my father but once she turned eighteen she enlisted to learn all about the air force?"

"And what of you? Did you enlist?"

"Yes sir, I served three years with the Illea Marine Force."

Mike stared at me for a moment and bowed his head before looking to Will.

"I like her." He said and I let out a snort earning Will to grin at me.

"I do as well." He said as he reached out and grabbed my hand as we followed Mike and his men to the back where people were running flight tests.

"Our training runs in different phases. Phase One lasts up to ten weeks. During the ten weeks, they will learn drill; general service knowledge; physical education; and military field skills such as first aid, weapon handling, and protection against chemical weapons." The second man, Major Tyler Wood said.

"How many phases all together?" I asked as Will broke away from us to one of the planes. I know he couldn't wait to get back to his training.

"Right now there are only two phases. Phase one is ten weeks and phase two is twenty-four weeks." Tyler said and I stared at him for a moment.

"Wow, the second phase is longer than the first one? Why is that?"

"In the second phase, we go over everything in the first phase but more in-depth with everything." He explained as we stepped to follow Will.

"William, would you like to demonstrate to your fiance how we start up this plane?" Mike asked and Will grinned before nodding.

"Sir, yes sir." He said as he opened the door and climbed inside swiftly as possible.

"He has enjoyed his time here?" I asked Mike who motioned for me to step back.

"He trained for a very long time before he had to stop and take on his duties as Prince Of Wales." He explained and I stared at Will as he pushed buttons and started the plane up.

"He seems in his element."

"Wouldn't you? You served the marines."

"I did it to please my father and grandmother. When my three years were up I was ready to go home."

"Not William. He wanted to stay longer."

I held the bouquet of flowers in my hand as Will and I walked back out towards the front. Will held tightly onto my hand and I rubbed my thumb across his knuckle and I felt him relax a bit more.

"It was wonderful having you two here," Mike said as he shook my hand one last time.

"I enjoyed my visit. Hopefully, Will and I can come after our wedding again to see if anything changed." I explained and Mike smiled.

"We would enjoy that." He said before he bowed his head to us. Will stepped towards the car and opened the door for me so I could slide in. Once he got in and closed the door behind him we took off back to Kensington Palace.

"You seemed nervous after you got in the plane?"

"It has been nearly two years since I've flown. I honestly thought I would mess up like when I first started.

"How much do you miss it? The RAF?"

"A lot. At times I wish I could just go for a week or two to refresh myself but I know as the Prince of Wales I have to give up things." He said and I stared at him for a moment before smiling.

"Maybe now I can take some of the pressure off of you and you could train once again?" I offered but Will smiled before he leaned over and pressed a kiss to my forehead.

"No, with you by my side, I won't miss the RAF that much."

"You still will miss it Will."
