As much as Peter tried to forget what happened a couple of months ago, he couldn't. He wasn't sure when it started, the little moments he started taking notice to. It started off as just feeling a little skip in his heart hearing you laugh, a tiny blush coating his cheeks whenever you gave a warm smile. He never gave any thoughts to these things before so what changed? It was as if he Spider senses were slowly dialing up to 11 around you. The whole process was gradual he wasn't even sure what the feeling was till he could practically feel it course through his entire body. He only ever felt this way around Liz... the girl he was practically obsessed over since Freshman year.
It was one rainy afternoon that finally everything seemed to click into place.
Your laugh resonated throughout the small space, your grin reaching ear to ear. You and Peter had spent the past hour goofing off, joking around instead of studying for the upcoming English exam. Neither of you had minded, knowing you both were overly prepared for it. Peter had been very stressed out lately with his late night duties and dearly wanted a break. It was nice to finally let off some steam and to just laugh with his friends...
friends.
Peter's smile soon fell, thinking the word over and over inside his head. Soon, yours did too, noticing how quite Peter had gotten. You placed a hand on his shoulder, feeling him stiffen soon after so you removed it. You ignored the little pinch you felt in your chest and spoke up.
''Are you okay? Why did you go quiet?'' You asked, beginning to clean up your work mess sprawled out across Peter's bedroom floor. Peter faced the ground, twiddling with his thumbs. He didn't mean to grow tense under your touch but lately... he got jumpy around you, an unexpected, slowly building fire burning up inside him whenever you did. He grew more and more confused everyday with these new... feelings collecting up inside him. He was so sure to begin with that it was because of your confession, that he was just flattered. But that didn't explain how they still happen, and were growing stronger and stronger with each day passing.
''I was just thinking...'' Peter trailed off, not really knowing what to say. He was growing nervous.. and that was a very new thing to happen around you. Unfortunately, he made the mistake of catching your eye when he looked up, his breath catching in the back of his throat.
God he could feel his heartbeat in his ears.
''You over think too much Pete, that was the whole reason of taking this little study break, even though it ended up being an hour long'' You laughed, your pearly white teeth shown to him with another smile he was finding breathtaking.
''We can go back to studying if you want, though I'm not sure how much longer my brain is going to last, it feels like it's pooling into a puddle'' You say halfheartedly, resting your head back against the side of his bed. He turned his head to face you, a small smile tugging on his lips. He admired you, watching the small strand of hair that fell in front of your face, your nose scrunching up in annoyance. Your hand moved to tuck it behind your ear before taking notice of Peter's eyes on you. Your face instantly burned.
