AHJUMMA POV

I knock on the door and hear groaning and feet dragging across the board. As soon as she opens the door her eyes widen in surprise and disappointment, knowing she was probably expecting Jungkook. "O-oh, hi Ahjumma."

"Jungkook told me you were sick so I came to check up on you," I explain, walking in and setting the soup down on the counter.

"O-oh," she mumbles weakly. He should be coming back anytime soon and I'll have a chat with him later. How could he leave this sick poor girl alone while he went out and had his fun?

I pour the soup into a proper bowl and bring it over to her on the couch. "Ahjumma you don't have to keep doing this for me, you know."

I slap her arm lightly. "Honey, I do this because I want to. And I know Jungkook's with his... whatever that is." She looks away, seeming to be in deep thought.

I puts my hand to her forehead, wincing at the temperature difference. "Your hand... cold," she shudders.

"You have a pretty bad fever, Kang Byeol. Can you sit up for me?" I place my hands on her back and stomach, helping her up from the couch weakly.

I fold the blanket onto her lap, putting the soup in front of the fan. "Wait for it to cool down and finish the whole thing. I'm not gonna leave until I see that bowl empty, got it?" I tell her.

"Ahjumma, I can take care of myself. After all, I have been alone for many years now," she laughs pained and brings the bowl to her lips. My eyes soften as I look at her figure.

I know she doesn't like being called by her first or full name but she seems to be alright with it from me. I've always felt responsible for her, living next to the house for 8 years now. It may not have been my place before, but it was impossible not to watch her family fall apart over the years, and now she has no one to care for her.

"Don't look at me like that, Ahjumma," she whispers, opening one eye at me as her face flushes red and her mouth gape. "I don't like being pitied on."

"Drink up, I'll be back soon," I rub her back, moving to the door as I see Jungkook pull up in the driveway.

I open the door and he flinches, looking at me with guilt. "Where have you been?" I cross my arms.

"I just went to watch a movie with Chohee," he whines.

"How could you leave her alone? I know you checked up on her in the morning. She needed someone to care for her."

"That's why I texted you, mom," He defends himself.

"You only told me three hours after you left, Jeon Jungkook."

"I forgot to tell you earlier, okay? Why are you so mad it's not like she can't survive left alone like that after all she's been through."

"That is exactly why she can't be left alone like that, Jungkook!" I shout at him, furious he even had the gut to say such a thing.

This shuts him up, looking down at his feet now.

"You have it good, you know that? Your father and I are still together and we all love each other more than anything. You wouldn't know what it's like a day in her shoes if it hit you hard in the head."

"But she's the one that told me to take Chohee out instead!"

"No buts, Jeon Jungkook. Now take your butt into this house right now and help me bring her to her room," I walk back in hearing his footsteps follow behind me begrudgingly.

I see him visibly flinch as he sees her state, now unconscious and skin flushed red heavily breathing. "Can you carry her to her room?"

He sighs, walking over to her pale figure. The way he swoops her up and brings her up the stairs makes it look like she didn't weigh anything. As soon as we reach her room he puts her down ungracefully, hearing her groan and hold her head. She still refuses to open her eyes, letting herself lie in the awkward position Jungkook put her down in.

I go to the side of her bed, swinging her legs back under the covers and fluff her pillow up for her. As soon as I see her get comfortable I take it as our cue to leave, holding Jungkook's arm as I walk out. Before I have the chance to let her rest alone I hear her giggle but the next words that leave her mouth silence the room in heavy emotions.

"Thanks, mom."

We look back at her stunned, only to see her peaceful sleeping figure.

KANG BYEOL POV

Jeon didn't talk to me the day after that. Or the day after that either, until our entire break had ended and Dr Jeon Fun Timez had only lasted a couple of days.

If I'm being honest I miss Dr Jeon, but Jungkook's bipolar behaviour has been ticking me off. He'd leave me on seen when I ask him what's his issue, to the point where I had to physically write notes to him and stick them on my window. The only time he ever responded to them was when he drew a middle finger and stuck it on his window.

Wasn't this break supposed to be about him trying to make up to me after what he did? I don't understand what I did to make him make this all about him again. Just when I thought he was going to be decent.

At school everyone greeted me and shared about their break, all except Jungkook who looked away whenever we crossed paths.

Once the bell rang I darted out after him, forcing his arm. "What the hell is wrong with you, Jeon?"

He huffs in annoyance. "Isn't it obvious? I don't want to see you."

"That wasn't what it looked like when you made those tickets for me," I retort, genuinely hurt and confused. I take his silence as cue to continue.

"Weren't you trying to make up to me? What's making the tables turn now, Jeon? Tell me."

He runs his hands through his hair irritated, looking away. Just as he's about to say something a red car pulls up and Chohee steps out of the driver's seat, immediately turning heads her way at how gorgeous she looked.

"I gotta go. Quit bothering me, Kang," he turns away quickly as he steps into the car with her. She shoots me an unreadable glance before driving away.

I'll never understand him, will I?
