KANG BYEOL POV

"Wh-wha..."

He smiles feverishly, and in a quick motion pecking my lips lightly.

D-did he just—

"Oh by the way, Kang? My dad's coming back this weekend. Mom asked me to invite you for dinner when he does," he smiles happily.

How is it so easy for him to act as if nothing happened between us? Everytime I try to push him away he persists on staying. I can't even deny the feeling of relief I get when he does.

"S-sure," I stutter out.

He admires his bandaged up hand before skipping his way out of my house. "I'll see you Saturday night for dinner, okay?" He calls out confidently.

Once he's gone I feel the corner of my lips rise. I press my palms against my cheeks to snuff out the heat I feel. Did he really peck my lips or was I just dreaming?

He looked so happy at the mention of his father, I'd really like to meet him properly. In the eight years I've been neighbours with him I haven't properly met him, only seeing him coming and going every few months or so.

Later that night I put on some music and go through my homework once more. Now that I've recovered I text my supervisor on being able to come back for work. I'm about to go to bed when my phone rings all of a sudden.

"Hello?"

"Hey."

I can practically hear him smiling through the phone. "Hey, Kyeongso. Sorry about today again."

"Ah, it's no problem. Actually I wanted to ask you something when we went out alone, but I never got the chance to," he chuckles nervously.

"O-oh, okay..." My heart begins to race.

"You really are one of a kind, Kang Byeol. I'd love to take you out some day. O-on a real date."

I stop breathing, panicking on how to respond. Kyeongso is a really nice guy and I thought I had a crush on him for a while, but for some reason I feel my heart sink.

"I-I... I don't know," I breathe out shakily. "I'm so so sorry Kyeongso, you're such a great guy but I-I just don't think you deserve someone like me."

"How can you say that? You deserve the world and so much more," he whispers softly into the phone.

I feel myself creep into a smaller ball. I know he's trying to be nice, but I can't help but feel like it isn't right. Why do I feel guilty...

"O-okay."

There's a long pause on the other end. "Hello?"

"I'm still here," he answers back unsteadily. "I just couldn't believe you actually s-said... really?"

I chuckle at his disbelief. "Yes, Lee Kyeongso, I'll go on a date with you. But I'm only trying this out, you know how I feel about these things. I'm just not fully ready for anything yet, please understand."

"I-I do! Don't worry about it. I'll text you again about the details. See you s-soon?" He fumbles with his words happily.

My cheeks burn a strawberry red. "Y-yeah, text me."

With that I hang up, looking up at the ceiling in deep thought. I can't believe I said yes...

But why do I feel so unsettled? I thought I'd be happier. I even told Haru I'd say yes so easily if he asked me to be his girlfriend. The high feeling came and went so quickly, why doesn't it feel right?

I shake off the doubt I have an try my best to fall asleep, smiling as I think back everything that happened today.

But the last person I thought of before the darkness consumed me wasn't the one who just asked me out.

"You okay, Kang?"

"Huh?" I snap back to reality, now registering that I'm in the classroom.

"You've been zoning out a lot. Do you even remember walking into class?" Haru whispers.

"I just got a lot on my mind. Don't worry about it, Haru," I reassure her.

"Oh, I see. Lemme guess, you're doing it with milkshake boy?" she wriggles her eyebrows. I know that look.

"No you weird bitch," I roll my eyes playfully. The feeling soon dies down and is replaced by nervousness. "B-but, he did ask me out..."

She squeals but covers her mouth quickly, looking like she might burst any moment. "Is there a problem back there, Ms Kang and Ms Bae?" The teacher irritably snaps at us.

We shake our head at the same time, her quickly turning back to the whiteboard.

"Why didn't you tell me, Kang?" She whisper yells at me.

"I just told you, dumbass."

"No, I meant immediately. I didn't hear shit from you for four days and something big happens and you don't bother telling your best friend?" She tries her puppy-eyes on me.

"I just didn't know how to share something like this... and it's not that big a deal he just asked me out on one date."

"You better fucking ring me up before your date. Your fashion sense makes me sad and you genuinely need help," she smiles.

"Why am I friends with you again?" I feign a playful hurt look.

The bell starts ringing, us following the crowd spilling out of school. As usual I see Chohee by the side of her yellow Ferrari waiting to pick Jungkook up. I grab my skateboard trying to roll past her but to no avail.

"Hey, Byeol."

"I go by Kang, don't call me that," I look back, narrowing my eyes to her.

She glares back just the same. "Yeah well I wouldn't care about some bitch messing with my boyfriend's life. You seem like a decent kid, but I won't tolerate how you treat my Jungkook."

"Excuse me?"

Just then Jungkook comes into view, skipping happily out of school grounds. "You know Jungkook was only taking care of you out of pity the other day."

I want so much to tell her how he's kissed me behind her back, but I'll revel in her oblivious state for now. Jungkook's joyful state seems to die down as he watches us glare at each other. "Is everything okay?" He asks cautiously.  I suddenly feel a boost in confidence and turn to him in a quick move, smiling as naturally as I can.

"Just fine, Jungkook. See you for dinner tomorrow, hm?" I kiss his cheek hastily before skating away, laughing at the stunned silence of the two.
