RECALL, CHAPTER 16𓈉 ☆ 𓈉
"We're here," he announces suddenly.
Omelas Dining?
I look to the neon signage nostalgically, remembering what this place used to be. Haru shoots me a knowing look as we get out of the car, slinging her arm around me. "New beginnings, Kang. We're making the best memories today," she smiles.
"Thanks Haru," I softly tell her, not wanting to bring the mood down for anyone.

KANG BYEOL, 10 YEARS OLD
The woman sighs, watching her daughter take a bite of the scrambled eggs she had ordered.
The child hums in satisfaction, finding joy in its creamy delightful texture. "Yummy! That was good mommy."
The corners of her mouth twitch a little, glancing up at her husband for a moment. "You've tried it. Now stop whining and let mommy and daddy eat their own food, okay?" She gives her a stern look.
Of course the small girl begins to tear up. "Mommy... I just wanted your attention."
"Kang Byeol stop your nonsense. Now finish your smoothie, we paid good money for it," she snaps.
Tiny droplets escape from her eyes, shaking a little as she brings the small straw to her mouth to sip. She doesn't look at anyone, just at her lap in fear of making her mother angry again.
"Will you stop that? You have such a temper on you, Haewon," the man now growls.
"Oh really? If I have such a temper on me why the hell did you want to take us out for lunch today, Kang Hangyeol? Suddenly changed mind about wanting to be seen out with me and your wretched daughter today?" Haewon raises her voice at him.
They start a scene slowly in the diner. His neck vein begins to pop knowing he is this close to losing it with this woman. "Because I wanted one last good outing with this family before our divorce is settled is this so hard to achieve!" He shouts uncontrollably.
Kang Byeol now watching her parents helplessly fight in front of her silences everyone with a question. "What's a divorce?"
For a moment they pause their bickering. The woman side-eyes her daughter carefully, and for a second a look of remorse and wariness flashes across her face. Her father grips his daughter's shoulder firmly, almost being able to feel his anger from his hold.
"We're going home now. Enough of this," he shuts her down. As the two adults are dragging their child out of the diner leaving their unfinished food behind, Kang Byeol looks around the place once more. Not a single head dares look their way after their big blowout, all except for one kind-hearted woman who smiles sadly at the little girl.
"I just want us to look like them," she rubs her eyes and points unsubtly at the same woman, sitting together with a man and their son in a booth near the exit before she's dragged into the car.
"What's wrong with them, mom?" The boy asks.
"It's not our business, Jungkook," she sighs, the aftermath of it all leaving a sour taste in her mouth. Nonetheless she picks up her smile ounce more, laughing at a dad joke Jaejoon tells.
And that was the last time Kang Byeol stepped foot into the diner. Not until eight years later.

"Earth to Byeol!" A loud voice shouts into her ear.
"H-huh?" She cluelessly answers back.
"What you thinking about, baby?" Jungkook smirks, wriggling his eyebrows funny.
Byeol rolls her eyes playfully, unable to hide her growing smile before dropping it again slowly. "Not that... just remembering something."
Her boyfriend smiles lovingly at her, placing a soothing hand on her back. He knows she doesn't feel like talking about it and respects her, thinking of something else to talk about.
Just as he's about to open his mouth once more their food arrives, a friendly face serving them at the counter.
"Scrambled eggs and ham for the boyfriend," Kyeongso laughs as he places his order in front of him. "And... chocoshake with the french toast for the lady."
"You're the best, Kyeongso," Byeol winks at him and waves as he rushes back to the kitchen.
Jungkook side-eyes the girl, but remains silent. He trusts her with his life, but that doesn't mean he won't get jealous at times. "You're the only one for me, Jungkook," his girlfriend sings, her psychic powers coming into play.
She pinches his cheeks cutely as he pouts, picking up her utensils. "Well, except for food maybe," she laughs.
"Hey!" Jungkook chuckles, slapping her arm. "Okay nevermind. Omelas makes the best scrambled eggs. Hard to compete with that," he caves in too.
He cuts a piece of it, a nice blob resting at the tip of his fork. Instead of putting it into his mouth, he picks it up and holds it in front of his girlfriend.
She looks up at him shocked and unexpected. "I want you to try it, you deserve the best thing they've got here," he beckons her with his soft bambi eyes.
Her cheeks glow a deep shade of red as her heart races in her chest. She looks up at him innocently as she takes a bit out of it, starry eyes never leaving his.
"H-how is it?" his insecurity peaks out.
She breaks out of her trance, softly laughing at her cute boyfriend. "It was nice, Jungkook. Wow I'm so hungry," she begins stuffing her face with her food before taking big gulps of her chocolate shake.
"Woah, slow down Byeol. You're on the road to a heart attack here," he wipes the dirty side of her mouth happily. Embarrassed she pulls away, drinking her smoothie slower.
He smiles at her struggling to find remaing droplets of it inside the cup, internally screaming at how much he wanted to kiss her face right in this moment. "Don't worry about it," he tells her. Jungkook clears his throat before repeating what he meant.
"Don't worry if you want another chocoshake. I'll buy you as many as you want."
Though she practically looked like a chipmunk she smiled as much as her chubby cheeks allowed her too. "I love you, Jungkook. Thank you for bringing me here today."
As she kissed him on the cheek, his eyes never left her, staring in awe at the girl in front of him as she chats on about the littlest things in her life with her mouth comically full.
Her. She is the girl he wants to have a family with.
