KANG BYEOL POV

"Not for long," he whispers, before pulling the chair out for me to sit.

I look to him eyes wide, yet the dainty smile on his lips doesn't go away. As I take my seat hesitantly I observe him. Despite the cocky aura he holds his twiddling fingers hint at slight nervousness he's feeling. "Are you okay, Jeon?" I laugh nervously, brushing some of the loose hair away from my face.

"I'm fine, actually I—"

"Everyone please take your seats, the main event is about to start," the emcee announces. Disappointment colours Jungkook's face, squeezing my hand tightly. "I gotta go to my seat," he licks his lips.

"That's okay, go," I gently prod him on, even though I really didn't want him to leave. As I watch him walk away to his seat next to his rightful girlfriend a sinking feeling fills my heart. Something so simple as to be able to sit next to him and hold his hand is a luxury I don't think I'll be able to have anytime soon.

As the emcee begins his welcome speech the guys begin pouring back in, plates loaded with a mountain of food. "Tonight we eat like kings," Jimin laughs. Haru rolls her eyes, pushing his shoulder gently. "And queens," she adds, before sitting between Hoseok and me. "I thought Jungkook's sitting with you?" she whispers.

I point over to the table next to us, her eyes flashing with understanding. "I'm sorry about that Kang. At least you have me right?" She smiles tenderly. I try my best to smile back, but it comes out all crooked. "But, you also have Hoseok," I say quietly.

She reaches over my hands squeezing them tightly. "Yes but in this moment you come first, compared to you he's practically nothing," she shrugs. "I can hear you, Haru," Hoseok pouts. I giggle at the saddened sunshine. "Don't worry Hoe, she's only saying that to make me feel better," I pinch his cheeks.

"Of course you'd start calling me that too," he rolls his eyes shaking his head disapprovingly.

"...So please welcome the main organiser for our anniversary dinner party and daughter of CEO Kim Hyunki, Kim Chohee," the emcee announces. Everyone begins clapping, watching as she gets up from her table all smiley and walks toward the stage.

"Hi everyone! It's so good to see the fruit of my labour blossom by the number of people in the hall right now. Nothing makes me happier than making my daddy proud."

"Cringe. Who calls their father daddy nowadays?" Jin whispers to us.

"Maybe she was talking about Jungkook instead," Jimin laughs.
