KANG BYEOL POV

Today is a trial run of being cast-free. It's been almost two weeks and I don't feel any pain anymore when I walk. It's been a week since Jeon left my house after... that, and it's been a day since I last hung out with Kyeongso. I've been hanging out with him for a while now, helping tremendously with forgetting about everything bothering me at the moment.

I swing my legs over my bed, feeling the carpet on the floor. Slowly but carefully I undo the velcro on the plastic of the cast, now freeing my leg from its prison.

I'll be fine. I've done this before.

I walk down stairs with the crutches in hand but not using it, just in case. Okay, so far so good. As I start making coffee for myself Kimchi starts barking and a knock on the door can be heard. I walk over, opening it to reveal Ahjumma's face. She looks down at my leg surprised, walking in anyway.

"You're good to go without it?"

I nod slowly, looking down and tapping on one of the scars from the glass shards. "Yeah, but now my leg just looks ugly..."

The number of scars on my leg now alarms me, not realising how bad it was before putting it into the cast. She grabs both my shoulder firmly, looking into my eyes. "Honey, you are one of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen. Nothing in this world could ever happen to take that away from you."

I shed a tear without even realising it. I look away deep in thought. She always knows just how to make me feel better. "T-thank you, Ahjumma..."

She sighs, putting the food down on the counter. "My son is an idiot..." she mutters under her breath.

"Huh?"

"What?" She repeats back at me, now dishing the food into a bowl.

"Nevermind, Ahjumma. You brought food for me again?" I giggle.

"Of course, it's literally the only reason why I come here every time," she laughs. "Now, this is traditional kimchi with sam gye tang. It's supposed to help with the growth of your bones, so eat up okay?"

I take a spoon and chopsticks out from the drawing and start slurping up the soup. "Wow, Ahjumma. You really do make the best food," I say muffled stuffing my face shamelessly. She rubs my back soothingly, warning me not to eat too fast.

It's in this exact moment when I realise how instinctive this is for me to feel warm inside. Is this what I've been missing out on? I've never had anyone do this for me before.

"Oh Byeol, what's wrong?" She calls softly. It's only now do I realise I'm crying. I slow down my chewing, wiping my eyes forcefully.
