Chapter 25: Like Lightning

"Taser! Get the taser!" Henry yells as my mindless zombie of a father growls and grunts like an animal.

"Oh my god." I whisper.

I grab the taser and painfully watch as I must use the taser on my father.

I pause and take a step back as I realize he's unconscious again.

"Okay. I want to know why your face was on my girlfriend's?" I snap, asking Henry.

"It's just-" Henry tries to start to excuse himself.

"I'm not your girlfriend." Nelly says, interrupting Henry.

I stand there in silence for a moment, trying to process what she just said. How could she say that? How? Why?

"Then tell me why we kissed today." I snap at her.

"I was weak and hadn't had food in days." She says.

"What about all those times before that, then, huh?" I say to her as I can tell Henry is uncomfortable when he looks away.

She is speechless now, not saying a word.

"I shared the deepest of secrets with you and we went through heaven and hell together. Heck, when you thought I died, you nearly got yourself killed trying to save me! Has it all been a lie?" I say.

"I'm sorry, Zane." She whispers as a tear escapes her eye.

"You know what? Just forget it." I say. "Henry, what have you found on my father?"

"Something worthy of findings." He responds. "After an x-Ray scan, I've found an odd electric energy taking over his brain."

"Can you study that energy?" I ask.

"I did." He begins to explain. "Upon closer inspection, this energy is pure electricity. Imagine a lightning strike. What fascinates me is that this energy is like a lightning strike times ten and your father, here, is still alive."

"What? How?" I ask.

"Well, this electricity isn't just any type of electricity, like I said. It's bearable because it's the same exact energy from the sun, just less light." He explains.

"You're telling me this energy is from the sun?" I ask.

"Precisely. Or it could be from any other star in the universe." Henry says.

"That's insane." Nelly adds.

"If you know that much about the energy, you probably know that Jeremy, the now ruler of the world, is using it to control us." I say.

"No, I didn't know that." Henry responds. "But there is one more thing that I found interesting. There is a small incision in the back of your father's neck. I believe that this is how whoever got the energy in there."

"I have an idea." I say. "What if we take water and throw it on the back of his neck...would that go to where the energy is and stop it?"

"There's a possibility. But, being that this is new, I'm not sure what it would do to your father after that." He says.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"There's a slight possibility that because of the energy controlling him, that if the energy dies, he might die with it." Henry explains.

"I can't do this." I say, shivering.

"It is more likely to work, though, Zane." Henry reassures me. "Don't give up hope."

I pause before I realize what he's saying is true.

"Alright. Let's try this." I say.

They untie my father as I get a glass of water to throw on the back of my father.

They lift him up and I splash the cool water on the back of his neck.

"Oh no." Henry says. "I don't feel a heartbeat!"

"NOOO!!!" I yell.
