"Fire!"
A white blast charred a hole in the wooden door. Filling the space with the scent of ice. The blasted hole edges are frosted and smoke. The lock is now useless. You step forward and push the door open with little resistance.
Inside the beige stone walls crouches a sand wraith. Wings splayed defensively in front of two people behind her. However, her tense muscles relaxed at the sight of you.
You grinned with a hand on your hip. Cobalt sits behind you. "You gonna keep standing there Tawni, or are you gonna let everyone say hi?"
Amalthea's face is a mixture of shock. awe, and relief.
Caroline's jaw is left hanging, "Wh– How?"
"Did you doubt me?" You tease.
Caroline shrugs and crosses her arms with a nod. "Kinda, yeah."
Amalthea pushes Tawni's wing aside to run up to you. Her face falters as she gets close enough to see the damage you sustained. "Oh, (Y/N). What happened to you?" She takes one of your arms and pushes the sleeve up to your shoulder so you can see the blooming bruises on your elbow. She scowls at the sight. "You are absolutely covered, and is this blood on your shirt?"
"Yes, but Mom- ow!" You flinch when she touches a tender spot at the back of your head.
"Back here too?! I have half a mind to wring the neck of that lowlife. Halvar did this, didn't he? I should've pushed more to come with you. Hit him upside the head so hard it rattles the pebble of a brain he has up there." Amalthea pauses mid rant to look at you. "Did you at least get a hit in?"
"I stabbed him," you answer honestly. Leaning away from her inspection.
Amalthea pulls you in close for a hug with a proud grin. Your side protests this greatly with a twinge of pain. "That's my boy. Serves him right. Tell me it was something vital. I've been wanting to take something sharp and shove it where the sun don't-"
"Annnnd let's save the messy details for later," Caroline said as she stepped up to you both. Eyes searching the outside world behind you cautiously. "How'd you get rid of the guards?"
You pull away from your mother's grasp. "That one might be easier to explain once we're outside. Come on." You wave them over.
You step out into the fading sunlight. The rays still feel warm against your back. Cobalt lays just off to the side beside the entrance. Where he settled to rest after blasting a hole in the door. Tawni notices him and is quick to trot to his side. Sniffing at his injured wing and face and letting out a small whine. He churrs back tiredly with reassurance.
Caroline and Amalthea followed you out of their prison and gape at what they see.
Luzarian riders fly across the skies. The wooly howls herding the Agirfia dragons. Some of your clansmen roam the grounds escorting what little armed forces left. As it turned out, Halvar brought most of his troops on that invasion.
"We've been going through the island bit by bit," you explain. "Taking over armories, dealing with the guards. It was easier than expected now that Halvar is gone. He didn't leave behind much of a backup system for his power vacuum. Leaving any rebellion disorganized. But don't worry! I told everyone to leave the citizens alone. Don't need things getting heated again."
Amalthea turns to stare at you. "You opened the gate."
"Yeah," you avoid eye contact. Cringing inwardly. "It didn't exactly go to plan, but it worked out in the end didn't it?"
