The next week passed uneventfully. Lilith and Lucifer's paths did not cross as she was constantly busy training with the others. Lilith was a natural with all of the subjects, picking it all up so quickly. Adam, on the other hand was struggling.

Today was their first day without training. The two of them were sat in the dining hall. After a few moments, Lilith decided to break the awkward silence.

"I was thinking of exploring today.....did you want to join me?"

"It's our first break, why don't we just stay here? We could get to know each other better too." Adam said with a smile. Lilith felt bad, but she had no desire to spend any more time with Adam than she had to.

"Perhaps later....I'm just going to go stretch my legs for a while."

"Okay, until later then." He leans over to kiss her, but she turns her face so his lips pressed to her cheek instead.

"Yes, see you later." she replied and then left the table in a hurry.

She knew she was meant for Adam, literally made for him, but she was struggling to feel anything for him. Instead she found him to be ignorant and boring. Her thoughts were never far from Lucifer and that afternoon they spent in the library together. Why was it that they had not had a lesson since? Was he ignoring her? The thought of it hurt more than she could bear.

Lost in her own thoughts, Lilith was barely aware of her surroundings. Hearing the rush of water, she made her way through the trees. As she stepped into the clearing, she happened upon a stunning waterfall. A gasp fell from her lips as it was the most incredible thing she had ever seen.

The pool before her was clear and calm, fed by a small waterfall from the rocks above. This felt like the perfect place for her to be alone with her thoughts. She sat on the edge of the clear pool with her legs dangling in the water. She leant her head back and closed her eyes, appreciating the cool water on her skin.

"I was not expecting to see anyone else here." At the sound of the familiar honeyed voice, her eyes snapped open. There stood Lucifer, looking out at the waterfall. She smiled at up him.

"It's so beautiful, I've never seen anything like it." He turned his intense gaze onto her. Lilith smiled, turning back to the water. Something about looking into those eyes for too long made her nervous.

"May I sit with you?" He asked.

"Of course." He gracefully took a seat on the ground next to her. For a few moments the only sound between them was the falling water as they both sat side by side, neither daring to look at the other. Lucifer eventually broke the silence:

"You know, this is my favourite place in the whole kingdom. I always would come here to think."

"That makes sense. I ended up here whilst lost in my own thoughts. Perhaps it called out to me." Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Lucifer turn to her in puzzlement. She finally met his gaze. "What is it?"

"You intrigue me."

"Why?"

"You are nothing like him.....yet you were made for him." She was quiet for a moment and he noticed her eyes cloud with tears, one of them falling down her face. He cursed himself for saying something so foolish. The last thing he ever wanted to do was upset her. "Lilith, I am so sorry, I should not have said anything"

"No, you're right. I am trying, but.....I feel nothing for him." She looked at him straight on. "Is there something wrong with me?"

Lucifer was shocked at the rush of anger he felt. How dare anyone make her feel this way. Unable to hold back, he wrapped his arms around her and she leant her head on his chest, her tears soaking through his shirt.

"There is absolutely nothing wrong with you....you are perfect."

As she looked up and into his eyes, Lilith realised what she felt for Lucifer would not go away, she could no longer ignore her own feelings. Suddenly she was too afraid to say anything, worried how she felt about him may spill out of her.

The moment was interrupted by a polite cough from behind them. Lucifer practically sprang away from Lilith when he noticed Uriel standing there.

"Lucifer.....Michael has called a meeting. He needs us all there." Uriel's eyes flicked between the two of them. "I hope that I was not interrupting anything."

"Not at all, we were just talking and I got a little upset. Your brother was kind enough to comfort me."

"I bet he was.....well, we should get going shouldn't we Luc?"

"Yes, of course." He stood up and walked away from Lilith without a word. Uriel looked back at Lilith with a tight smile before following his brother. Once they were out of earshot, Uriel spun on Lucifer.

"What do you think you are doing?"

"What do you mean?"

"Don't play dumb Luc, I saw the way you were looking at her. You are playing a dangerous game."

Lucifer stopped in his tracks and turned to his brother.

"Why would I be interested in a creature like that? We are angels brother, we are above them. I was merely comforting her.....these humans are really rather weak." Uriel looked at him dubiously.

"Whatever you say Luc."

As Lilith walked back from the pool, she couldn't help but wonder what might have happened if Uriel had not interrupted them. It was obvious that Lucifer cared for her, perhaps felt for her the way she felt for him. Not that any of that mattered, she might be drawn to him, but soon she would be sent to Earth with Adam, far away from Lucifer. At this thought, she felt the tears threaten again.

Upon entering the dining room, she noticed Adam was still sat at the table. He turned to her and smiled.

"Lilith, how was your walk?" She pasted a smile on her face and sat down opposite him.

"It was very nice thank you, what have you been up to?"

"Oh, not much. I've just been relaxing and enjoying the incredible food here. I do hope it will be this good down on Earth." Lilith didn't have the heart to tell him it most certainly would not be. They would be providing for themselves. Luckily she was already a skilled hunter, so she knew they would not starve. "Did you want to have dinner with me?" She looked at his hopeful face and suddenly felt so guilty. She had no desire to spend time with him, but she had to try for both their sakes.

"That sounds like a wonderful idea." She said with false enthusiasm as Adam passed her a plate.

After almost an hour of small talk over dinner, Lilith faked a yawn.

"Goodness, I am suddenly so tired. I might go lie down."

"Of course, best to get your rest." Adam got up from his seat and moved round the table to help her up from hers.

"Thank you" He took her hand as she got up and kept hold of it whilst he continued to gaze at her.

"Lilith, you really are beautiful.....I am so glad that you are mine." She bristled at this statement, but would not let her anger show. Adam cupped her cheek with the other hand, leant in and kissed her. Lilith gave into the kiss, realising she didn't have much choice. She really was Adam's.

He pulled away and she smiled. She had never kissed anyone before and it felt pleasant enough, but that was all. Surely she should feel more....and certainly not be imagining Lucifer's lips instead of Adam's.

"Goodnight Adam."

"Goodnight Lilith, I cannot wait until we can truly be together."

That smile remained plastered on her face until she was alone in her chambers, that's when the tears came. The very thought of laying with Adam filled her with nothing but dread.
