Demi's POV

After my last show on tour, my crew, band, and I decided to all have dinner together. I work with A LOT of people, so I made sure to make reservations before-hand. We all had a blast. I love my touring family. On our way out, I noticed a little girl around the age of four sitting by the door. Her knees were up to her chest. She was obviously cold. It was raining and 37 degrees (Fahrenheit) that evening, and she was only wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Everyone passed her, not seeming to notice. They all made their way back to the bus, but I stopped and stared at the little figure. Her head was buried in her knees, so I couldn't see her face. One of my back-up singers touched my shoulder behind me. "Demi, she's not your responsibility," she whispered in my ear. I looked at her in shock.

"You're saying she should just be left here alone?" I whispered back. She shrugged, then walked back to the bus. I kneeled in front of the little girl, and placed my hand gently on her knee. Her head shot up. She had the face of an angel, it was breathtaking. "Are you okay?" I asked. She nodded, and I gave her a questioning look. "Where are your parents?" She didn't give me an answer, just looked back down at her knees. I looked back at the bus that was waiting for me, then back at the little girl. "Come on, let's get you out of the rain," I said, taking her hand and helping her stand up. She didn't hesitate to jump up and follow my lead to the bus. When I walked in, my crew gave me a weird look. I just ignored them. I wasn't leaving this little one alone. The bus dropped me off at my house, and I got off with the little girl holding my hand. She hadn't said a word. Once we were inside, I turned to look at her. The very first thing I noticed is that she needed a bath. "Let's get you washed up," I said, walking towards the bathroom with her right behind me. I started the water and let it warm up. "Do you want to take it by yourself?" I asked, and she nodded. "Okay, well here's the shampoo, conditioner, and soap. Bath or shower?" She held up two fingers, I'm guessing that means shower, so I turned on the shower head. Then I grabbed a towel from the cabinet. "And here's a towel. I'm going to find something for you to wear tonight, okay?" I asked, and she nodded. I left and went into my room, looking for something that the little girl could wear. She was so tiny. I settled on a t-shirt, hoping it wouldn't fall off her shoulders too much. I waited outside of the bathroom with the shirt until I heard the water turn off. I waited a few minutes so she had time to put the towel on before opening the door. I didn't know how bashful she was about other people seeing her. "Here, sweetie, this is the best I have," I said, giving her the shirt. She gave me a soft smile and slipped it on over her head. As I expected, it didn't like to stay on her shoulders, but it was going to have to work for tonight. After leading her to my couch, I grabbed her dirty clothes and started a wash with some of my own. I returned to the couch and sat down beside her. "So, what's your name?" I asked. She pressed her lips together, obviously not wanting to speak. "You don't talk, do you?" She shook her head and looked down. I thought for a second. "Can you write?" She nodded, not looking up at me. "I'll be right back," I said, getting up off the couch. I found a notebook that i've never used and a pencil, giving them both to her. "Okay, so what's your name?" I tried again. This time, she wrote down something.

Alexa. She continued writing. But I like Lexi better. I nodded and smiled.

"Okay, Lexi, how old are you?" She started writing again.

Six. Wow, she looked smaller than a six-year-old.

"Where did you come from, Lexi?" She looked down and lowered her notebook. "I really need to know," I continued. She sighed and started writing.

The Lander's Children House.

"Oh, I see." She never looked back up at me. "You know I have to take you back in the morning," I said. It was obvious she didn't want to go back, but it wasn't legal for me to keep her. I don't want a kid, anyway. It was too late tonight to get her back there. "Are you hungry?" I asked after a long awkward silence. Her eyes lit up as she looked at me and nodded. "Come on," I said, getting up and heading towards the kitchen. "What do you like?" She wrote something down.

Anything.

"Right, okay," I said, trying to decide what to give Alexa. It was too late for an actual big meal. We both needed to go to bed. "How about peanut butter toast? Do you like that?" She nodded eagerly. I popped the bread in the toaster and grabbed the peanut butter out of the pantry. While I was putting the peanut butter on the now toasted bread, Alexa watched intently. I set it on a paper towel in front of her, and she immediately started eating. She must have been starving! Then I remembered something. "I'm Demi, by the way," I told her. She finished the toast and smiled at me. Then she wrote on her paper.

Thank you.

I nodded. "Let's get you to bed," I said, leading her to the couch. I had an extra bedroom, but it was full of random crap that I didn't feel like cleaning out. "I'll grab some blankets," I said, heading to the cabinet where I keep extra blankets. I returned shortly with three. I tucked two into the couch, trying to add more cushion. Alexa climbed on and laid down, and I laid the third blanket on top of her. "Get some good sleep, okay? We'll be waking up early to get you back home." She wrote one last thing down.

It's not my home.

"Well, either way, back to where you came from. They're probably really worried." Alexa looked down and nodded. "Good night," I said before heading to my room, turning off the living room light on my way out. There was something I noticed when looking at the beauty; she had bruises on her arm, like someone wrapped their hands around them. I shook off the thought. She's in a care home, they can't hurt her.
