Chapter 4

Here I am stark naked and rummaging something to wear from our old chest here at our backyard. I mentally noted myself to never again complain when Mom instructs me to fill this old thing with clothes. It really is a big help in this kind of situation.

I pulled some underwear, a simple yellow tank top and a denim shorts from the chest. I slowly wear it one by one, my eyes wondering eyeing if someone is around. Now lastly pulling the denim shorts up my legs, which were a little sore from my two hour run in the woods, I slowly turned the knob hoping that it’s not locked and thankfully it opened. I ease myself inside our house through the kitchen door, maybe Mom’s home that’s why the door wasn’t locked.

I went straight to the refrigerator to get a glass of cold water. I was very thirsty and tired after my run which didn’t give the comfort I was looking for even though it lasted for two hours. Yes, the run calmed me down a little but still the pain was there and I guess I just have to live with it.

My Dad would surely kill me if he’d know that I run for more than an hour.Young wolves like me still need to take it slow running in wolf form. If we forced ourselves too much we can end up in bed for days. Werewolves heal fast, but still our human body is still not accustomed to the changes.

Grabbing a milk chocolate bar from the ref, I marched to the living room seeing what Mom was doing this early. As I entered our living room I heard my Dad’s voice outside our front porch. He’s talking to someone. So I went out to see who it was and also to let Dad know that I’m home.

“Ok Jack, I respect your decision.” As I stepped out the front door I heard Alpha Mathew’s soft but authoritative voice. The two of them were sitting at the wooden bench on our front porch; they have that serious look on their faces like they were talking about really something important.

“Sam. You’re home.Where did you get in? Are you ok?” Dad abruptly stands up as he saw me standing beside our front door.Worry was evident on his voice.

“I’m fine Dad. My wolf was itching to get out a while ago so I shifted and decided to come home after my run.” I said it in a way that it sounded that like it was nothing; I don’t want him to worry. And I promised to myself that no one will know about my secret.

“Are you sure?” My Dad looked at me straight in the eyes, but before I could answer I heard Alpha Mathew’s voice.

“You know how weres who just shifted in a day or two feels Jack. It’s normal.” I look at Alpha Mathew, who was now standing behind my Dad. I bowed my head towards him, in greetings and respect. And then I gave Dad a reassuring smile and after a few more seconds of eyeing me he visibly relaxed.

“Hmm. Can I get you something to drink?” I looked at them as I asked.

“Thank you Sam but I’m heading out now. Your Dad and I are finished talking.” My Dad walked him to his car, and I waited for him to comeback.

“Pack problems?” I asked Dad as we entered our house.

“Not really, Mathew wants me to come with him on the neighboring pack this weekend. But I refused. It’s your party on Saturday. I can’t miss that. ” I was about to open my mouth to protest when he held up his hand in front of me to tell me to stop. “I’m staying and that’s final, understood?”

I just nodded. Oh well I got that I-made-up-my-mind attitude from my Dad, so why bother to argue. We then shared my milk chocolate bar I got while talking about my shifting and all, after that I headed to my room to take a nap.

Sitting on my queen-sized bed, I suddenly noticed my phone on my bedside table. I picked it up and saw that it has no power so I plugged it in to charge it and turned it on.
