Chapter 3

As Elsie ran out the door, she ran right smack into him. She had forgotten werewolves were just as fast as her. She was taken aback at first, then gave a low hiss so no one else would hear her.

"What do you want?" she said with as much venom as she could muster, hiding what she was really feeling.

He was smirking at her. "Nothing, little vampire.  Just saying hi."

Whoa. He did not just go there! "Um, excuse me? Little vampire?  I could rip your head off right now and suck the life out of you if it wasn't for all these people. And did you really just say "hi"? Honestly? We're kind of, like, enemies if you didn't know."

He leaned against a locker and shook his head in amusement. "Really? Didn't look like that when you were staring at me in class." He raised an eyebrow in waiting for a response.

Of course, I stood there like an idiot, speechless, trying to come up with an excuse. No excuse came. Damn it!

"Well, why were you looking at me like that, wolf boy?" This time, I was the one smirking. He just nonchalantly walked over to me, his face inches from mine. I stopped smirking, because his lips were distracting me. I couldn't look him in the eye, afraid I might melt into them, might forget who I really am.

"Maybe it was because I know something you don't. Because I don't understand it, because I can't hide it. Tell me, why did you look at my sister Devon and her mate Nick, who in fact is the Alpha, like you were ready to kill them, yet you looked at me with passion, emotion, and amazement? Hmmm?"

"Because, I...you, um...it....I don't know, ok! All I know is that I had this feeling in my gut when I saw you, and it won't go away! I can't explain it, and I honestly don't care. Just get out of my way so I can get to class. Please."

He seemed content on what he heard, and nodded his head. "That's all I needed to hear. I'm Jack by the way. Jack Florence. And you are?"

I rolled my eyes. What was with all the introductions today? "I'm Elsie Amber. Now. Get. Out. Of. My. Way!"

"Ok, ok! Just think about what I said though, kay?"

I just gave him a disgusted look and muttered under my breath as I stormed by him. I could hear him chuckling still as I ran for my next class. Stupid, arrogant, hot werewolf! This was defiantly not how I had planned my day to be like! Now I don't only have to deal with the humans, but now Jack and the rest of the stupid werewolf pack.

I couldn't help wondering though what was really going on between me and Jack. I mean, obviously he was attractive, but that didn't explain this feeling I had. I've seen plenty of werewolves in my lifetime, and I've never experienced anything like this before. It just didn't add up!

The rest of the day was a blur for Elsie. All she could think about was Jack. Not even the overly peppy Jake could get her mind off him. What was Jack to her, other than a werewolf who somehow found his way into her life?

She was relieved once lunch time came. She really couldn't eat though, because it would just taste like dust in her mouth. But, it was a good time to clear her mind. Or, so she though.

Every person around her was forgotten when she saw him. He was smiling at her, and Elsie realized she was staring at him.

Shit! I really have to stop doing that.

So, he ended up walking over to her, along with his sister Devon, the alpha Nick, and two others from the pack. One was blonde and perfect looking, the other tanned and dark haired.

Nick looked her right in the eye, defiantly not as friendly as Jack. "We need to talk. Now."

She stared him down back. "Fine. But not here. Too many people." He nodded, leading Devon, Jack, and the rest of the pack with Elsie to an empty hallway. Once they got there, they turned around and faced each other, clearly neither of them wanting to do this. Well, except for Jack, who seemed to be getting a kick out of this.

       "Listen, vampire - "Nick started.

       "My name is Elsie."

"Whatever, Elsie, this is our school. Our territory. Just because you moved here doesn't automatically make this your land. You put one finger out of place and we won't hesitate to kill you and your family. Are we clear?"

"Crystal." I couldn't help myself from smirking at them and putting my hands on my hips.

Devon started growling at me. "Is this some sort of joke to you? Just stay out of our way and don't cause any trouble. Simple. Now can we please go?"

Blondie gave Devon an evil look. "What? Too scared to stay any longer with the vampire?"

"No one asked you Courtney! And besides, you know better than anyone I'm the best fighter in the pack, and that you'd be the one to cower away from a vampire." She nodded towards me when she said this. This shut Courtney right up and put her in her place. Obviously, there was some tension between those two.

"Guys! Just chill, okay? We only came to settle things with Elsie. Now, Elsie, are we good here?" said Nick.

She nodded her head to them. She didn't need to mess with them anymore.

"Good." He then exited the hallway and went back to the Cafeteria, the pack shortly behind him. Well, except for Jack.

After they were gone, he came up to her, now by themsleves in the lonely hallway.

       "Hey, you ok?"

"Ya, I'm fine." She said. "But why do you care?"

He came closer, closer to her face again. Elsie wanted to pounce him, but at the same time she wanted him even closer...

"Just 'cause." He whispered, and kissed her on the cheek. This sent a shiver down her spine, and made her cheeks go red. Her instincts kicked in though. And right as she was about to snap his neck, he was gone.

After that, she stared down the long hallway, and touched her cheek where he kissed her. How that one little thing made her feel...
