"A soul is something unique to every single one of us. No matter what life we live, who we love, how we die...it remains the same, unchanging. And sometimes our soul remembers things that our own mind or heart cannot. I forgot everything else, but not you."

𝓒𝓪𝓻𝓮𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓮. It was the mood for the evening, and I was enjoying the feeling of it. It had been a very long time since I had felt so carefree, it was like a weight had been lifted off of my chest. I wasn't constantly worried about what was going to happen, and if anyone I knew was going to end up, well, dead. My life hadn't been simple in months, since the two Salvatore brothers showed up, or well, since the accident.

I was standing with Caroline around a bonfire that was set up on campus, the sun had set long ago, and cool night air was crisp. Duston had taken me to meet up with Caroline, and we headed back to our temporary room to get changed for the party. I was wearing a cute dark gray cardigan, high waisted dark wash jeans, and a tight fitting black top. It was perfect for this cooler weather, and I wanted to look cute.

Caroline on the other hand was going for a more edgy look than usual, she borrowed my leather jacket and she looked fabulous in it. She was wearing a dark silky cami, with black jeans and ankle boots. We had just arrived at the bonfire not even a few moments ago, and we already had red solo cups in our hands. Students were walking around, talking, and just letting loose.

There were speakers set up as the latest hits were being played, which were totally not by my choice. I so preferred the classics. I took a sip of the spiked drink, my eyes wandering around looking for the one person who said that they would meet me here. Caroline twirled her hair around her finger as a group of guys checked us out, she smiled at them while I just rolled my eyes.

"So where is this guy you were talking about at?" Caroline questioned as she turned to face me.

My face scrunched up as I scanned the crowd, "No idea. He said he would meet me here."

"You know, I honestly thought you were having a thing with Damon..." Care trailed off, noticing the frown on my face.

"And why is that?"

Caroline rolled her eyes, "Come on, Addie. Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about."

I raised up my hands in a mock surrender, "I really don't know what you're talking about. Damon's just...a good friend. He's not interested in me like that."

"Ugh, please. Anybody can see that you two have a connection, he's totally crushing on you."

I crossed my arms, "And why do you think that?"

"Not think, know. It's the little things. The way his eyes follow you when you're not looking, the soft smiles he gives you and only you, and not mention you two are always hanging out. I wouldn't be surprised if you two already slept together," Caroline said thoughtfully.

A soft blush came across my cheeks, "Well, I mean you're not wrong."

Caroline's eyes bugged out of her head, "You two slept together already? And I haven't heard about it! What the hell, Adriana! I thought we were best friends."

"We haven't slept together Caroline; we've just shared the same bed a few times. Still doesn't mean he's into me," I pointed out.

Caroline scoffed, "Yeah sure whatever."

"What about you and Matt huh? What's going with you two?" I quickly asked, trying to distract her from what we were talking about.

Her eyes lit up, "Matt is perfect! I miss him already, is that sad? It's sad isn't it?"
