"Life moves so fast, but not fast enough for some. And for a moment time stood still, because we had finally caught up with it. And life had finally begun."

𝓟𝓮𝓻𝓯𝓮𝓬𝓽. It was a word that was often used by my mother, it was something she often strived for. My father was the mayor of Mystic Falls, therefore we had to be the perfect family. My father worked hard, my mother was the elegant housewife, but my brother, Tyler and I, were the ones who struggled with this perfect image. We weren't perfect, we made mistakes, ones that we paid for dearly.
I stared into my vanity mirror in disdain, my steely eyes staring back at me. I had applied my makeup to perfection, and there I go using that dreaded word again. My life wasn't terrible, but it had changed after the accident. I was in the car with Elena when the accident happened, and while I don't remember much, I can still feel the glass cut my skin as the icy waters flooded the vehicle. The last thing I remembered was desperately holding on to Elena's hand as it all went dark.
I shook off the memories, or lack thereof, as I took in my appearance. My dark chocolate curls were unruly today, not that I minded. I was dressed in dark wash jeans, and a dark plum colored blouse my mother had picked out for me. I appreciated her trying to help me, but this was our first day of junior year and I wasn't feeling enthusiastic. Summer had gone by too fast and now life was coming back full force. My phone chimed loudly alerting me to a new message.
Bon-Bon:
We are outside, hopefully u didn't sleep thru ur alarms :)Addie:
be down in a sec <3I sighed before picking up my backpack and slinging it over my shoulder before heading downstairs. My mother, Carol, was carrying a large antique vase of flowers that looked suspiciously like lilac's. I scurried down the stairs trying to avoid her, I had been trying to do so all summer to little avail. Just as I was about ready to open the large ornate wooden doors of the front entrance her voice boomed from behind.
"Adriana Anastasia Lockwood! Where do you think you are going?" She called out as she came into the entryway.
I groaned before turning around to see her standing there with a frown, a manicured hand on her hip, "I was just going to school."
She raised up a flawless eyebrow, "Without saying goodbye to your own mother?"
I ran over and gave her a quick hug being sure to avoid the vase of flowers, "I'm sorry mom, I just didn't want to keep Bonnie and Elena waiting."
Her eyes softened as I pulled back, "How's Elena doing? I haven't seen her much since, well, the accident."
"She's holding up the best she can, but I better get going before I make us all late. I'll see you later!" I shouted before hurrying out the door, hearing her yell after me.
I practically ran down the steps, and flung the door open to the familiar Toyota Prius. Bonnie was in the driver's seat while Elena was sitting in the passenger seat. They both stared me down as I sprawled out across the back seat completely out of breath. I shook my head as I put on the black seatbelt.
