"We're not trying to be something we aren't; rather, we're reconnecting with who we are."  - Pema Chodron

Dust. The air was thick with it, filling my lungs with each breath. The dust coated the entire building, along with a multitude of spiderwebs clearly indicating that it had long since been abandoned. My head was throbbing, but it was the least of my worries. Elena had woken up before me, but she was sporting a red mark on her cheek - courtesy of the brunette, spiky haired vampire. Elena refused to be quiet and accept her vague answers to her many questions and pleading for mercy.

I, on the other hand, was in the process of slowly coming to. The throbbing was becoming a dull ache, but the grogginess was ever present. My memories jumbled together, an incoherent mess of thoughts, panic and pain. The last thing I remembered was walking Elena to her car, then it all faded into nothing. I eyed our surroundings wearily, my senses heightened, the feeling of dread seeping in at our current predicament. Elena and I were creeping around trying to piece together pieces and gain an exit strategy.

Rose, the spiky haired vampire stood in front of the blonde male, "How are the girls?"

The man shrugged, "Last I checked the curly haired one still passed out. The other finally shut her mouth, the slap you gave her did the trick."

Rose raised an eyebrow in an accusatory manner, "You didn't touch them did you?"

"Give me some credit, Rose," Trevor scoffed, even if he secretly desired to do what she said, "Did you call him?"

"I called one of his contacts. You know how this works."

Trevor looked at her exasperated, "So did you or did you not get a message to him?"

"They said he got it."

Trevor jokingly laughed, "Wonderful! And what?"

Rose glared at the man, quite irritated with his demeanor, "And that's it, Trevor, now we wait."

Trevor started to pace nervously, "We could always leave, it's not too late. We don't have to go through with this."

"I'm sick of running!"

"Yeah, well, running is what has kept us alive, Rose!" Trevor nervously shouted, the fear rolling off him in waves.

Rose shook her head, trying to dismiss his nervousness, "Look, Elijah's old school, if he accepts our deal then we are free."

Elena and I were around the corner listening in, when she stepped forward causing the floorboard to creak loudly. Rose immediately shot a glare in our direction, causing a shiver to go down my spine. Fear was settling in the deep pits of my stomach, we were trapped.

"You two! There is nothing around here for miles, if you think you are getting out of this house you are tragically wrong! Do you understand?" Rose spat out, clearly beyond irritated.

"Whose Elijah?" Elena asked boldly, her brief cessation of questions quickly coming to an end.

"He's your worst nightmare," Rose elegantly states.

Trevor took that as his cue to leave, not wanting to spend his potential last hours alive dealing with a bunch of hot-headed women. My eyes darted around the room, the stench of must causing my nose to wrinkle. Rose glances between the two of us before she dusts off a chair, and moves it to a desk covered in cobwebs, dust and books.
