I woke to the gentle chirping of birds, and the other small creatures scurrying about the forest. It felt like I had a headache, groaning, I rolled over and out of the line of sun rays that was being poured directly into my eyes. I could hear shuffling around me, and some sniffing. I tucked my wings closer to my body, allowing myself to continue warming up some, it was a little chilly that morning.
After a while I lifted myself off the ground to see what the shuffling was, I finally opened my eyes. Toothless sat in front of me, his ears were pinned back and his eyes held a sad expression, he croaked a little, asking if I was okay. I respond to him with the dragons noises, telling him I was fine, I just had a little headache after my crash from yesterday. I also took the time to look behind me, seeing the grass, dirt, and rocks pulled up from the ground in a line, showing how I impacted the earth with the landing. I straighten out my wings, no longer needing anymore warmth and I tucked them away.
Me and Toothless played in the forest for a while, playing things like hide and seek, tag, and even racing once or twice. By the time we were done playing it was around noon, we ended up in the creater by the lake. I skimmed the water while flying to get us some fish. After eating Toothless and I ate, we took a moment to sit and enjoy the peaceful scenery around us. Throwing playful chirps back and forth every once in a while.
After a while of enjoying the peace, I heard sticks crunching in the distance. I quickly asked Toothless to hide in the cave, he was hesitant but eventually he agreed. I walked behind a rock transforming back to human to hide it from Toothless. Walking out from behind the rock, I sat close to the water, pretending to not be doing much, also brushing off any dirt or grime I saw on my clothes.
Hiccup walked into the area, Snotlout followed close behind Hiccup. Their eyes almost instantly locked onto me, "Hey (Y/N)! How are ya?" Snotlout asked, walking over with a smile on his face.
I replied, "I'm doing alright, I guess." I brought my gaze from the boys back to the water.
"Would you like to see the rest of the village with Hiccup and I?" Snotlout questioned.
My nose scrunched a little, "Thanks, but no thanks, I prefer to hang out in a peaceful location by myself." I declined.
Snotlout got this sad look, he also looked like he wanted to say something else, but couldn't bring himself to do it. Suddenly Hiccup piped up, "Maybe you guys could explore the forest, or walk the beach line?" I thought about it for a moment, they're probably not going to give up on this, not to mention the fact that Snotlout's eyes glimmered with a world of hope when I took a second to think.
Finally I responded, "Fine." Snotlout face seemed to explode with joy. I picked myself up off the ground, dusting off the bit of dirt and sand from sitting. I walked over to Snotlout, he bowed and offered his hand, I scoffed with a small smile creeping onto my face, I've never seen someone do that for me before. I placed my hand in his, when I did, he looked back up and eyes seemed to sparkle when he saw my small smile.
He gently gripped my hand in his and we began on our way. Snotlout showed me many areas in the forest, many of them also including some stories. By the end of the day we ended up with a comfortable silence, walking along the shore line, with the sun setting along the horizon. After a good while of walking I stopped and turned to Snotlout, "Today was nice, so, thanks, for that. I guess." I spoke. Snotlout smiled, and I could see his cheeks turn red in the slowly growing darkness. Though, I could still see just fine thanks to the night vision trait I get from being a dragon. "I believe it's time for us to part for the day now." I said.
"Would you like me to walk you home?" Snotlout offered.
"Thanks, but I think I'll be just fine." I replied. Snotlout looked a little sad, but eventually he turned and started walking back to the village. I had some other plans though, I headed off towards the crater in the forest.
Once I reached the destination I sat down on one of the various rocks and waited. My heart started to beat rapidly, I was nervous for what I was about to do. After what felt like an eternity of wait, but was probably just a few minutes. I heard flapping, and soon enough Toothless came gliding down as Hiccup vocally guided him into a safe landing. When they did manage to land safely, Hiccup gave him a couple of pats on the back, "Good job, bud! We're getting really good at the landings!" Hiccup hopped off his back, beginning to take off the saddle. "That's enough training for today bud, we can keep going- aah!" Hiccup screamed as he finally turned around and saw me.
"Umm... hey, (Y/N)... What are you doing here?" Hiccup asked, dragging out some of his words, it was clearer than day that he was trying to come up with an explanation for Toothless.
"Calm down, Hiccup, I'm not here because of Toothless." I said, Hiccup had a look of relief and bewilderment on his face. Relief because I wasn't going to rat him out and bewilderment because I knew his name was Toothless.
His face then moulded into regular confusion, "If you're not here for Toothless, then what are you here for?"
I locked my eyes to show my seriousness, "I'm here because of the other dragon." I told him. Hiccups face began to fill with worry and fear.
"What do you mean?" Hiccup's voice quivered a little.
"The other dragon, the one that never listens to you?" I specified.
"What about them?" Hiccup asked, still looking very worried.
I stood up, "I think it's about time you find out the truth about them." I said, walking a little closer to Hiccup. His visibly gulped and his form was tense.
Once I was at a good distance I stopped walking, "Close your eyes" I told him. He paused for a moment and then his eyes fluttered shut. I gave Toothless a gaze that told him to either do the same or look away, he also closed his eyes. I took a deep breath, and let my bones shift, rearrange, break, and put themselves back together. My skin grew jagged, hard and faded to black, becoming scales. My eyes went from rounded pupils to thin slits. My bone structure had shifted to accommodate my new size and body type. Hiccup's face changed and flinched while hearing the transformation happening, yet keeping his eyes shut tight."You can open your eyes now." I told them. Their eyes blinked open, Hiccup had a look of surprise and realization on his face. Toothless looked happy to see me, probably because of the fun we had earlier today. Hiccup's mouth basically fell to the ground, I avoided eye contact, a sudden wave of anxiety and nervousness pounded into my system. It itched at my fight or flight response, but I held back, leaving myself glued to the ground.
After what seemed like forever, Hiccup managed to collect himself enough to say—
