𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓, after Scott had returned home after the full moon had ended, Kat had learned of their latest enemy. A giant lizard-like humanoid monster had attacked Scott and Allison while they were at Isaac's house. Kat laughed when her brother described the monster. First werewolves, and now lizard people. What was next, the basilisk from Harry Potter?
Kat didn't sleep much; she had too much on her mind. Her glowing green eyes and the lizard person were the top two priorities, but after researching until the sun came up, she found next to nothing on either topic. The closest thing she could find on either was that she and it were shapeshifters. But unfortunately, despite her efforts, there wasn't much else she could find.
Kat attempted to recover from her overnight research the next morning during gym class. She leaned on Lexi's shoulder as Lydia pinched her arm to keep her awake until she was called to climb the precarious rock wall that Coach Finstock had set up. Her friends didn't know why she was so tired, and they didn't question it and helped her stay awake. For a while, at least, until Lexi let her curiosity get the best of her.
"So, I know it'll be useless to ask, but why are you about to start drooling on my arm?" Lexi asked, a hint of sarcasm in her voice as she teased her sleepy friend.
"I was up really late finishing an extra credit research paper for English." Kat easily lied, surprising herself with the ease of coming up with that line.
It was Lydia's turn to question their friend, slight panic rushing through her at the thought of missing an assignment, "What extra credit paper?"
"Uh, one I asked for." Kat covered, "I didn't do too well on our last test, figured I had to make it up."
Kat was saved from answering any more questions by her brother falling down the wall before his harness caught him just inches above the mat. There was scattered laughter as Scott exhaled, but his relief was short-lived when his harness gave out, and he collapsed onto the mat with a grunt.
Coach Finstock sat on the mat beside Scott, chuckling as he said, "McCall, I don't know why, but your pain gives me a special kind of joy." Coach manically laughed before addressing the rest of the class, "All right, next two! Stilinski, Erica, let's go. The wall."
Kat watched as Stiles' face split into a grin when he looked at the girl he was assigned to race the wall against. Kat remembered her from middle school. Erica Reyes; a shaky girl with permanently frizzy hair and a nervous look. She had been diagnosed with epilepsy early in their middle school years, and for some reason, everyone thought it was the coolest thing to make fun of her for it. Kat never did.
