𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐅𝐄𝐖 things in the world that genuinely calmed Kat down enough to where she felt like she could handle things, and cheerleading happened to be one of those things.  Of course, some would find the jumping and shouting that came along with the short skirts anything but relaxing, but Kat was always somehow able to clear her head as she cheered.  It helped her focus on one thing at a time and solve most of her problems.  However, cheering at the game the evening after being confronted by the human-sized lizard only stressed her out more than she already was.  She couldn't explain it, but the idea of standing on the sidelines with her pom-poms crossed behind her back was putting her on edge.

The stands were packed, and the pressure was high, and Kat would usually be smiling with excited energy as she cheered, but she had a bad feeling about that night, and the grimace on her face and less than enthused cheers she was doing gave it away.  Melissa had asked her if she was alright as she headed to her seat in the stands, as did Allison as she and her grandfather followed Melissa up into the bleachers.  Kat plastered a too-fake smile on and nodded, giving her mother and friend an overly-cheery answer before letting it drop into a frown the second they passed her.

The game was merely a distraction.  It was a distraction to prove that Scott wasn't a werewolf to Allison's grandfather.  It was a distraction for Allison to get her grandfather's keys.  It was a distraction for Kat to figure out what she would do next with the new information she had learned in the past forty-eight hours.  The latest bit of information was the plan that her brother and their friends had formulated independently.  Allison was to get her grandfather's keys so they could find a bestiary, an encyclopedia of mythical creatures, that the Argents had authored in their time as supernatural hunters.  Stiles knew how Kat was honestly handling the fact that they didn't know what she was, even though she hid it so well that even Scott hadn't noticed how bothered she was by it, and he had purposely left her out of the plan so he could acquire the answers for her, but Spencer was never one to keep his mouth shut.

The scoreboard was counting down the minutes to the start of the second-most anticipated lacrosse game of the year, and Kat felt dread start to rise in her throat.  She gulped as the final whistle blew and turned around to face the field, crossing her pom-poms behind her back and watching as the opposing teams took their starting positions.  There were so many worries going on in her mind.  Would Spencer be okay as he started dealing with his heightened strength and senses?  Would Scott be able to control his werewolf abilities throughout the game?  Why was she feeling so anxious about the game?  What was going to go wrong?

The game had hardly even started before number nine from Beacon Hills was forcefully thrown to the ground by the opposing team.  Kat nervously bit her lips as the crowd let out pained and concerned groans.
