The Choice

Chapter 24

I took the elevator and reached the terrace. Ava was still not there. So I just stood there thinking about Will, our first kiss , his smile. Imagining his smile brought a smile to my lips.I closed my eyes and it felt like he was sitting on the wheelchair at the exact spot where he used to sit and asked questions.And at the other corner of the terrace after our candle light dinner, he came and talked me to vitro fertilization. And I smiled and agreed.

"Hayley?"

I turned back and saw Ava,"You came?"

"Obviously you texted. I am sorry for....."

"Thank you for coming." I cut her short.

"I want to know how it happened."

"I don't want to tell."

"If you don't tell then it will eat you alive and I know that your brain has yet not processed it."

"Ok fine."

"So tell me from Dr. Medicus telling you to cancel Will's transplant."

"Okay. when Dr. Medicus told me that he had found a loophole in MTAI and told me that the transplant was going to Jessica, I came out of the room and my heart started thumping against my chest, everything became blur and I felt nausea so I went to the washroom and puked and sat on the floor of the washroom and I had a plan."

"Okay now tell me about the plan."

"Okay the plan was that I was supposed to tell Dr.Ross about the change of plans and I did not. I went to Julia and told her that Dr. Medicus had instructed her to put Jessica under medically induced coma to wait for a transplant and she believed me. "

"And then."

"So I scrubbed in, and went to the operation and saw that Will's transplant  was almost  over. I became really happy that the transplant was over and now that Will and I could have a new and amazing life. I jinxed it "

"Okay and then?"

"I came out from the OR and came down stairs to see Julia running towards me, she said Jessica is dead and that she still did not call Dr. Medicus. My face became pale and chalky. I rushed to the room and started doing manual resuscitation but nothing could help her heart to start moving but we still tried to save her for forty five minutes but it did not help."

"Then?"

"I came to see Will who was supposed to be awake after thirty minutes of the operation. I went to his room to see DR.Ross standing by the door. He said that Will's operation was not successful and he was gorked and paralyzed from the c-spine and said that Will told he wants to be removed from the life support if anything goes wrong with the transplant and that on his pape rworks I was named to remove him from the life support. I went inside and he smiled at me. I couldn't do it anymore, so I came out of the room." 

"Okay."

"Then Dr. Medicus called me into his office and told me that he was evaluating my job."

"Listen Hayley, no matter what happens I will always be there by your side. You are my person."

"I know Ava, but the only thing I don't know anymore is how to live."

"Find a reason to live, the vitro fertilization, I had told Will about this because I knew if this would happen then you would.....Well anyways Hayley get up and breathe there is so much to life."

"Thank you Ava, it means a lot to me."

My phone buzzed it was Dr. Medicus.

"Ava I have to go,its Dr. Medicus."

"I will come with you and stand outside."

"Okay." 

We both took the elevator to Dr. Medicus's room. Ava stayed outside. I went in.
Dr. Medicus was busy looking at some paperwork and and when he saw me he went glum and I knew the results were bad.

"Hello Hayley."

"What did the board decide?"

" I tried to convince the board but they did not budge."

"Okay."

"I'm sorry but you are fired."
