Lunch was wonderful they went to a small Cat Cafe they apparently went to all the time. The door bell chimed and Mrs. Ren smiled brightly at Shota as she tended to her customers with her white cat tail swaying to amuse the kittens who tried catching it.
"Shota! It's been a while boy. Good to see you!"
She quickly shooed the kittens away so she could embrace them both in a hug. Akemi blinked in shock as she woman continued speaking to them with a smile.
"How have you and Akemi been dealing with the kiddos? I take it Emiko's growing up fast huh? And Eri likely has your students under her thumb right? Hitoshi's getting enough sleep? He may look like you but I certainly hope he doesn't take after you to much..."
Mrs. Ren's husband Tamotsu chuckled as his black cat ear swiveled over the oven timer.
"Haha Hitoshi would mimic Akemi. I've been seeing Hitoshi with a young girl his age recently. He acts just like Shota. Now if Shota has it his way my dear then his daughter's wouldn't be growing at all." He then smirked as he took out the batch of pastries. "Nope, I bet Shota would just love for his girls to stay cute and adorable forever. That way he wouldn't have to worry about the day his little girls discover boys."
Shota right eye twitched over that comment. He forced a smile over Tamotsu's smug grin.
"Mrs. Ren can I speak with you and Tamotsu for a moment please." He turned to Akemi. "I'll be back dear..." He smirked. "Well, it sure looks like someone's made a few friends."
Akemi was surrounded by cats and a hoard of playful kittens trying to play with her hair. "Uh huh—that's great—go talk dear." She was to enamored by the cats to think of anything else.
After explaining the situation to the two elderly Cafe owners, Shota sighed softly as Mrs. Ren was softly crying while her husband patted her back soothingly.
"At least she's making progress...how can we help?"
Shota took their hands and smiled gratefully.
"There's no need for..."
"Nonsense the dear has been through something horrible! So consider lunch on the house."
"I really..."
"Ah ah ah! None of that."
"But!" He was shushed by Mrs. Ren. She gave him a pointed motherly glare.
Shota hung his head with a chuckle. "Alright I yield. A good hero knows when he's been beaten."
So the couple ate their lunch and chatted with Mrs. Ren. Akemi was eager for any information about her past.
Mrs. Ren laughed. "Oh no Shota was a regular long before he brought you here dearie."
Tamotsu scoffed in amusement. "Pretty sure he's the reason we have so many cats around."
"Hey!"
Akemi giggled as she scratched a kitten behind the ears. "I can believe that."
"Akemi!"
Mrs. Ren smiled. "This place became his safe haven, after Hizashi brought him here. And it's because of you that he even got up on stage to sing for our very first karaoke night."
"What, me? Really?"
Shota chuckled. "You were very persistent. Practically threatened to break up with me if I didn't sing a duet with you."
"For some reason I can see that." She then smirked. "I sure must've terrified you if you agreed Shota."
"Oh yes...my pride is nothing to me if it means I might lose you."
