(Y/N's POV)
I've never seen this many people on top of Wall Rose before. The sun was just rising and the whole Scout Regiment, including Erwin, and the newer recruits were all standing, fifty meters above a swarm of Trost's inhabitants that were yelling encouragements and prayers of fortune or success .
"TAKE BACK THE WALL FOR HUMANITY!"
"WE BELIEVE IN YOU!"
"SEND THOSE UGLY BASTARDS TO HELL!"
I was standing between Levi and Moblit who were next to Erwin and Hange who were all staring down at the crowd of citizens who had brought banners and some were even slamming their palms on some sort of drum.
"How did they know we were going today?" asked Moblit, mesmerized by the multitude of cheering people.
"The meat we got yesterday was from the Reeves company. So they must have spread the news to the whole city." I speculated.
"Well so much for leaving out of sight out of mind..." mumbled Levi, looking down indifferently.
"YOU CAN COUNT ON US!!" I suddenly heard coming from next to Hange.
The five of us looked to our right and saw the more enthusiastic members of the Levi squad yelling back at the civilians with touched expressions and tears on their faces. As they kept thanking them for their support, Levi asked Erwin:
"When was the last time we got a send off like this?"
"As far as I'm concerned, never. But it feels good doesn't it?" replied the crippled Commander.
"Tch. I don't know. I never really expected much praise when I joined the scouts." he answered putting this hands on his hips.
Then Erwin pumped his only fist to the sky and roared like a lion trying to impress his prey. And sure enough, it may have shocked the people on the wall, but the people below, soon copied the inspiring Commander who's going to war with only one arm.
"TODAY WE VENTURE YET AGAIN IN TITAN TERRITORY! COMMENCE THE OPERATION TO RETAKE WALL MARIA!" he shouted with his usual imposing tone.
We then jumped on the lifts that abruptly lowered all of us to the ground with our horses. The sound of the applause still booming from the other side of the wall. The moment my feet hit the ground, I jumped on my horse and once Erwin leaded the charge, Levi followed and I followed him. Soon we were all following the Commander in perfect formation.
"SCOUTS! HEAD OUT!" he shouted; urging his horse forwards.
the next day, about 2 am (Levi's POV)
We had dismounted several hours ago, when we had reached the forest between the two southern districts. Because of the titans generally low nocturnal activity, we walked on the ground and carried torchlights to see where to put our feet. Our hoods were up and our guard was up as we slowly started our descent in the dense forest.
"Are we still not at the foot of this thing? It's almost dawn..." I said.
"Once we get down this mountain we should be able to see Shiganshina." replied Erwin.
I looked at my assistant who had taken Erwin's horse despite his protests. She hadn't uttered a single word or complaint since our departure from Trost but I was still thinking about what she said yesterday.
More alone than if I was actually alone...
"I can see it. The Shiganshina district." she said suddenly.
"Really? Good. Do you see anything suspicious?" Erwin asked the girl.
She moved a (h/c) strand that was blocking her left eye and her look suddenly became more distant as her pupils dilated, sign that she was using her enhanced eyesight.
