(Y/N's POV)

A few days later, the truth about the subjects of Ymir became known and was the biggest scandal in the walls. It was all people ever talked about, when we walked in the streets of Mitras, people would look at us with either admiration of fear. We had to get used to their stares but we were more focused on other things.

Eren has been getting less nightmares and blank out moments, Mikasa skin became more vibrant and Sasha was good enough to leave her room but we had to put her in a wheelchair when we walked around. Today was the medal awarding ceremony in the palace where we would not only be proclaimed as heroes, but where we will honor our fallen comrades.

We were all in our formal uniforms and were in the ceremony room, waiting for the queen. The higher ups and some of the dead's friends were invited, well, those who were helpful to us anyway.

We were in the corner of the room, Sasha was taken out of her wheelchair and was sitting on a chair that was brought out for her. Floch, Hange and Levi were here too and we just silently standing there as the others around us muttered hateful comments. I didn't really care, I was more worried about Floch who seemed very unstable for some reason.

Suddenly a familiar face approached us with a wide grin on her face.

"Hitch! You came!" said Jean, greeting the girl.

"Well I did play a big role in your rebellion, I should be here to see the fruit of my labor." she answered sarcastically.

She was acting all tough, but I could see it in her eyes that she still getting over something, probably Marlo's death. I decided to sooth her up a bit.

"Marlo, died a brave soldier. The bravest of the recruits. I witnessed it myself. He was right behind Erwin, leading the charge. You can be proud of him." I said. "Right Floch?"

The boy looked at me with a bit of fear in his eyes. The past few days he got to learn a bit more about my general personality, but he still didn't get over that yelling I gave him during the expedition.

"Marlo was a recruit like me, but he unlike me, he joined not for the glory, but to be able to make a difference in the world. And he was a good friends and soldier." he said.

"Yeah that sounds a lot like him..." she chuckled, trying to hide the sadness in her voice.

She was turned around, about to leave but I caught her shoulder.

"Hitch, he did talk a lot about you... he did care for you..." I told her.

"Thanks, Second in command Yeager. I'll be watching you guys." she said, not turning around before walking to the far side of the room.

"How could you know that he liked her?" Floch asked me.

"I don't." I answered.

"So you're okay with potentially lying to people." Floch hissed.

"Why would you say-" started Jean.

"You're still mad that it was me aren't you. And not Erwin." Armin mumbled.

"Yes. I do think that Erwin should have saved not you." he said harshly. "And it's not just me, all these people in the room are wondering why is was you and not the Commander."

"And who are you to say that Armin is not worth saving? You don't even know him, heck you weren't even part of the scouts for even a month." hissed Eren defensively.

"You're right, I don't. But I do know why he was saved, because you, Mikasa and Captain Levi, let your feelings get in the way of making a rational decision." he said.

I saw that Eren was about to lose his cool and if that happened the scouts' reputation will be screwed over. And honestly, I was pissed too. I ran to him and roundhouse kicked him in the arm then before anybody could even notice, I wrapped an arm around his neck and it looked like I was comforting him like a friend would. But in his ear I whispered.

"Look kid, I appreciate that you brought us Erwin and it's good to have an opinion. But let me tell you one thing, I may be your age, but I am still your superior and I will not tolerate you insulting Levi, Armin or my brother infront of me. And do try to have some respect for the dead and try not to insult them with your pitiful attitude. Got it?"

He nodded on my shoulder and I let go of him, a smile of my face.

"Good." I said cheerfully.

I saw Eren and Levi smile as I walked away from Floch who was probably terrified of me now.

When Historia came in, the room went silent as we saluted our queen. We kneeled infront of her, in rank order, as she carefully took the first medal off the pillow. She placed it on Hange, and the scientist kissed her hand. Then it was Levi, then my turn but when Eren kissed her hand after receiving his medal, he froze and didn't let go of her hand.

"Eren?" I asked him, looking at him.

He had a frightened look as he let go of her hand. He apologized then looked back at the ground.
