(Armin's POV)

I woke up, my back against a hard surface, my chest against a blanket. I was staring straight at the cloudless sky and I felt fine. I sat up and realised that I was on top of Wall Maria, looking over Shiganshina. I looked to my right and saw Sasha under another blanket, a bloody bandage wrapped around her forehead. She was mumbling something about her head.

I got up and looked down at myself. I was only wearing a uniform jacket that wasn't mine, my pants were beyond dirty and my shoes with black with ash.

I heard several sets of quick footsteps coming towards me so I lifted my head to see who it was. Eren was running towards to me with Mikasa close behind him.

"Eren?"

He didn't answer, he just hugged me and I hugged him back a bit confused.

"Welcome back." Mikasa said patting my head.

"So he's awake." Captain said as he landed on the wall with (Y/N) in tow.

"Armin! You're up!" she said.

"Captain! (Y/N)! What's going on? What happened?" I asked.

"Eren, tell him." the corporal ordered.

Ten minutes later

I took the water Jean handed me and swallowed it whole.

"So I ate Bertholdt. And the scouts is nothing but us." I repeated making sure that I wasn't hearing things. "And now I'm a shifter."

"Pretty much." the assassin confirmed.

I ate Bertholdt...

I felt like vomiting, but Jean handed me more water before I could.

"But why? Why not Commander Erwin?" I mumbled, holding back the puke.

"I thought I said to tell him everything." Levi hissed nudging Eren with the tip of his boot. "These stubborn brats were convinced that you were the better choice, but in the end it was Erwin who was ready to die and I was the one who chose his time of death."

"Ultimately Erwin gave the serum to Levi and Levi used it as he saw fit. So now you will have to endorse Erwin's life and the colossal titan on your shoulders." Hange told me.

"But I can't replace Erwin. That's preposterous..." I retorted desperately.

"Don't think that you need to be the next Erwin, Armin." (Y/N) comforted. "You just need to understand that now you will have to do more for humanity inside the walls."

"And don't make us regret it." Levi hissed. "And don't start regretting it yourself. Got it?"

"Yes sir!" I saluted firmly.

"Now let's get what we came here for. Levi, (Y/N), Eren and Mikasa, let's go. Jean and Connie, stay here and watch Armin and Sasha." ordered the new commander.

(Eren's POV)

The five of us, walked through the ruins of what used to be our home. I recognised the old staircase where you used to sit and talk and after the last turn, I saw our home with that rock in the place it was in when we left.

We started to push the rubble away, making sure that the boulder didn't fall on the cellar entrance. When it was cleared, (Y/N) shined her lamp on the staircase leading to the little wooden door. We went down the stairs and when I was in front of the handle, I pulled the key out of my shirt and saw right away that it didn't fit the padlock.

"Guys. This key, doesn't unlock this door." I said nervously.

"What?" hissed Levi.

"But that's the key Grisha showed us, I'm sure it!" exclaimed Mikasa holding up the key.

"Tch. Move. I'll open it." said Levi pushing through us.

With one kick, he broke down the door and he pulled down whatever was left with his hand. We entered the room and began to search through dad's things. Hange and Mikasa flipped through the books, Levi and I went for the bottles and (Y/N) searches the desk.

"Hey guys... there's a keyhole here." my sister said bending down at the desk draw.

We walked to her and I slotted the key in the draw. I turned it and a small click echoed through the room. I pulled it open and I couldn't believe my eyes.

"It's empty!?!"

"No. Look closer. There's a false bottom." Levi said pushing down one side of the draw bottom then pulling it out.

There were three books, different colors, all signed with my father's name.

"It's peppermint and..." I stared using my titan nose.

"Charcoal." finished my twin. "Grisha was preserving these, it must be what we're looking for."

Me and Mikasa grabbed one, Hange took another and my sister took the last one. We sat down on the floor, Levi reading over her shoulder. I was holding the first one, so opened it and took out a portait of three people was sitting on the first page.

"It's a portrait." I said.

"No it's to perfect." corrected Levi as I passed it to him.

"It's a photograph. The beast titan has one in his house. He said that by reflecting light on an object and printing it on special paper, you can get a perfect replica of the object." (Y/N) explained, looking at the slip of paper that Levi handed her.

I nodded, then turned the pages and I started to read the book out loud.
