The fighting had ceased, meaning we could finally take a deep breath and relax for the rest of the night. After Mando and I had managed to pull ourselves out of the murky water (well, it was more like Mando had to pull me out of the water), we got cleaned up and ready for bed.
I had changed out of my soaked and muddy clothes to a black button-up and a black pair of shorts. I glance down at the clothing that I was wearing, a small grimace pulling over my lips. I was a little uncomfortable that I had kept some of the clothing from my Imperial days, but I hadn't really cared enough to get new ones. I suck in a deep breath and shake my head as a small shiver ran up my spine.
Omera had been quite generous to supply us with enough blankets and sheets, which I was more than just thankful for because a heavy layer of cold air had set in over the land and it became quite clear that we were going to need all the layers we could get.
The room Mando and I were supposed to be sharing was already freezing, thanks to Mando leaving the freaking window open. I thought I had closed it, but apparently, he had decided to open it back up after I left to get cleaned up.
I plop down onto the soft bed, sprawling out in the middle of the mattress. My ears pick up on a pair of heavy footsteps and I quickly remember that Mando and I were supposed to be sharing a bed for the time being. I scoot closer to the wall, making sure that there would be enough room for him to lie down as well. He walks into the room, setting a few parts of his armor down onto the creaky wood floor.
He almost looked... bare.
He was standing in his usual work pants and a thin undershirt that he had always worn under his armor. It was thin enough for his prominent muscles to stick out and show off. I swallow hard, quickly tearing my eyes away from his broad shoulders and well-built chest.
Maker, I really need to get it together.
A small yawn escapes me as I slowly push myself up into a sitting position. I lean my back against the wall of the hut as I carefully adjust the collar of my shirt to make sure that everything important was covered up. I watch as he sets all of his armor down in the corner of the room, being careful not to drop or scratch anything. I open my mouth to talk about what had happened earlier, but I decided against it.
Instead of speaking to him, I let him work in since. Well, that is until he decides to just break it himself.
"I have a question for you," he says, resting the last of his armor down on the ground.
"What's up?" I ask, slowly leaning the back of my head against the wall.
"How'd you manage to get through the Imperial Walker's leg?" he asks, his voice blunt and curious. My head instantly snaps back down to look at him, but before I could even think of anything to say that might counter his question, he speaks again. "I saw a bright purple flash through the fog while we were fighting. And you know, it's nowhere near being the color your blaster lets off so..."
"I don't-" I try, but he continues to talk.
"As I was cleaning my armor down by the river, I couldn't help but think back to the conversation that you and the Armorer had. She mentioned something of yours being purple. What was she talking about?" he continues, completely cutting me off before I could even have a chance to explain myself.
"Uhm..." I start, no longer knowing what I wanted to say now that he was giving me the chance to talk.
I felt that I had lost my train of thought thanks to the little rant that he had just pulled off. I think that had to have been the most he's ever really said to me in one go. It's always been short and blunt sentences from him and his whole little interrogation phase just happened to catch me off guard, especially since we were talking about a touchy subject.
