Y/N POV

I ran towards the forest, ducking and gliding through the trees. Branches slashed against my face as I pushed through the leaves hastily. My mind felt foggy as I reached the edge of the deadheads, before I stopped for a moment, leaning against the cool bark of a nearby tree.
Sucking in a deep breath through my nose I tried to hold back the pathetic tears that pricked my eyes, but they fought and began to fall.

I let my body slide down the trunk in defeat, tucking my legs into my chest defensively, wrapping my arms around my shins.

I don't know what had come over me. Why couldn't I have just said no to the question? I know they would've just made fun of me, and probably call me a chicken... but why did I run away?

I groaned in frustration, digging my palms into my closed eyes.

Pathetic.

Why was I embarrassed to tell Newt how I felt?

Our friendships blossomed over my time in the glade- and I knew he had to be feeling something towards me to. I always caught his not-so-subtle glances, or the way his lips twitched upward at the mention of my name.

Would it really be so bad if he found out that I did like him more than a friend? Maybe it just felt too soon to admit such a thing.

I sighed, wiping my eyes with my exposed wrist as my mind raced a little more. I took a few more deep breaths before the sound of leaves crunching got closer and closer. I peered to the side, looking towards the direction of the noise.

"Y/N?"

Newts voice was gentle, my name rolling off of his lips delicately. My heart began to race as he came into view, and I averted my eyes, placing my head back on top of my knees.

"What." I sniffed, my tone a lot harsher than intended.

I felt Newt brush up against my arm as he slid down next to me, his skin warm against my own.
We sat in silence for a moment before he turned to look at me, his doe-brown eyes lidded with guilt.

"I'm sorry I asked you to say such personal information in front of everyone..it was stupid of me. I didn't think it would mean that much to you, and for that I'm really sorry," He said softly, his gaze falling back upon the leaves below us.

"You don't need to apologize," I rubbed my hand against my face, "it's my fault for being so sensitive."

"If you don't mind me asking, why didn't you tell anyone though? Why run?" His voice wavered slightly as his eyes landed on me.

I hesitated for a moment, before turning to face him, managing to look him in the eye "Because... I don't know. It's embarrassing? What if- what if they don't like me back?"

Newt's gaze was gentle as his eyes trailed all over my face, searching my expression.

"Well for one, I'm pretty sure any bloke in here would just about jump out of their skin if you said you liked them. You are the only candidate here at the moment."

The two of us chuckled, easing the tension.

"But two... you can trust me.." his voice trailed off for a moment as he inhaled swiftly, contemplating his next words.

"I'll even tell you mine," A small smile appeared on his lips.

My face warmed, stomach beginning to churn.

I mean, like he said, I really was the only candidate... unless he was gay.

The shaggy haired boy leaned closer toward my body, his brown eyes peering deeply into mine. When I looked back into his, I saw somthing that made me feel warm and fuzzy throughout my whole body.

Newt hesitated for a moment, parting his lips slightly before closing them, but opened them once again.

"You, Y/N." He whispered, the top of his nose shifting colours as he warmed.

"Really?" I said quietly, matching his hushed tone.

He leaned closer, his forehead touching mine as we watched each other, enticed in this moment.

"Really really," he said.

I couldn't help myself as I closed my eyes and smiled, rubbing my nose against his, "I like you too, Newt."

He smiled. He smiled so wide, and his eyes beginning to turn along side him as his face lit up with complete excitement. He slowly lifted his hand and placed it gently against my face,  caressing my cheek. As I leaned into his touch I melted, completely mesmerized by this moment.

Newt pulled his forehead from mine, his eyes flickering from my lips to my e/c eyes. The butterflies that churned in my stomach intensified as the blonde headed boy slowly leaned in.

His warm breath cascaded over my face, and just as his lips brushed mine, he stopped and whispered, "Is it ok if I kiss you Y/N?"

I nodded quickly, and without anymore hesitation his soft lips pressed against my own, a subtle taste of mint and nature.

I kissed him back firmly, and the warmth in my stomach increasing as an excited rush cascaded around my body, leaving my limbs numb.

Newt lifted his other hand, now caressing both sides of my face. He kissed me again, and again, and again, our lips not wanting to leave one another's.

I heard someone approach but ignored it, nothing being able to take me away from this moment.
"Y/N? Newt? Where are y-AH OK LEAVING BYE!" I heard Chris say, but he ran off quickly.

As our kiss slowed, Newt and I broke apart, heavy breaths exchanging between us. I stared up at him with hooded eyes, my face beat red; he looked down at me with complete devotion.

"That was.." I began-

"Amazing," Newt finished.

We started laughing, our bodies vibrating with admiration. I stared at him for a moment but Newt looked away, as if he was contemplating.

"What are you thinking about?" I asked gently.

He looked back up at me hesitating for a moment, but began to speak  "Y/N I know we haven't known each other for very long, but when we first met I felt something special. I get this weird feeling when I'm around you, and I get jealous when the other shanks look at you, even touch you. And to think you happen to feel some way about me when you could feel that way to any other guy in the glade- I can't let this opportunity slip away..." Newt trailed off slowly.

He then grabbed both my hands, holding them between his own. "I know it's pretty fast.. but would you like to be my girlfriend?" Newt asked, hopeful.

I smiled widely. It was extremely fast, but there was this strange irresistible connection to this boy that I can't ever remember feeling before; not like I could remember much from my past anyway, but the point was there.

"No one could make me say no." I smiled, leaning in for a kiss again.
