The moment I saw Alec leaning against the wall, I knew. I knew he was waiting for me and I immediately rejected him. However, Alec didn't get the hint. I'm guessing that he's never been rejected before. Remind me to have a word with Nicola later that she needs to reject my brother a little because his ego could use a bit of bruising. He instructed me that we were to leave in 10 minutes. I complained that I didn't even have breakfast yet, but he told me to grab a shake and hurry up. I groaned out loud and stalked passed him to the the kitchen. I grabbed my shake and headed to the garage. Surprise! Surprise! Pierce was leaning against his Mustang GT. His eyes narrowed as he glared at me. Well, I didn't want to be working with you either! Hell, I didn't even want to come. Alec appeared moments later and got into the passenger seat. Not like I'd want to sit next to the Irish asshole, but it'd be nice if Alec offered me the shotgun. Whatever. I just sighed before scooting into the backseat. Pierce drove to the airport where we hopped on the private jet. I had no idea where we were going until we arrived at a small airport. I looked out the window and read the sign Grand Canyon Village. We're going to the Grand Canyon? Cool. I mean... I've never been, so I'm down with sightseeing.
We left the plane to enter into another vehicle. More specifically, a black hummer. I'm guessing a part of Pierce's job is to chauffeur my brother around since he got into the driver's seat once more. Traffic was light so it didn't take us much time to get to the location. I thought the location was the Grand Canyon, but we passed the entrance sign. Alec pulled out a map as Pierce drove further into the desert. Alec nudged Pierce which resulted in the wizard muttering a spell. The outline of the map began to glow a faint gold hue. Different icons started to appear on the map. Alec pointed in an arbitrary direction and told Pierce to drive there. He, somehow, understood my brothers vague direction and arrived at the proper location. We had to abandon the hummer since we had to descend down a precipice. We landed on the ground with ease and they started to look around. More like Pierce said a spell that caused green light to surround his hand and he moved it around as if it were a metal detector. I squinted my eyes as I looked up at the sun. I pulled out my phone and noticed that it was 103F. It was hot as hell, so I was hoping that they'd find whatever they were looking for soon.
"Ahah!" Pierce exclaimed. He bent down and motioned Alec over. After a nod from Pierce, Alec punched the ground with all his might. I cringed when I heard his bones breaking, but he didn't care. He repeatedly punched the ground until he got what he was looking for.
"Do you know what this is?" Alec held the black stone up for me to see.
"Umm... a rock... that's black." I shrugged.
"Uncultured, idiotic-"
"It's a rare type of obsidian stone." Alec interrupted Pierce. "It has powerful properties which allows it to be used as a source for chaotic-" Alec was interrupted by the sound of motorcycle engines. We turned to the right and saw a bike gang gunning for us. Alec hid the stone in his pocket and told us to head back up, but when we looked up the cliff, we saw some of the gang members staring back at us. He gritted his teeth and rushed them. I heard the sound of a shotgun and saw that Pierce got hit in the leg. Alec's breath hitched and he relinquished his assault to tend to his friend. Since he was distracted, someone stole the stone out of Alec's jacket and sped away on his bike. Alec offered Pierce some of his blood. I noticed something smelled weird, so I looked in the direction of the hummer and realized that those bikers planted dynamite around the car. Within seconds, an explosion blasted through the desert. Parts of the hummer were sporadically falling from the sky. My shoulders slumped since I was stuck in this exhausting heat.
"Can this get any worse?!" I raised my fists in the air. Suddenly, the ground began to shake. I saw something in the horizon moving towards us, but couldn't get a clear look. It was moving fast. After a few moments, I recognized it to be an enormous scorpion. It was at least 10 feet high and who knows how long.
"Of course you had to ask, dipshit." Pierce muttered from my brother's arms.
"Can you run?" Alec asked him.
"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm good." Pierce fanned him off and stood up. "What do you recommend we do, Alec? I mean... our car got totaled."
"I'd suggest we start running. Scratch that... we should run now. Yep, now is good." He pulled us and we started running from that beast. Why must it be so hot?! I'm not gonna ask if it can be any hotter because we saw how my last question panned out. We zigzagged through the desert in an effort to avoid being impaled by its stinger. Pierce and Alec had to become acrobats in an effort to avoid its claws. Me? I was screaming my head off while I ran away from that thing.
Pierce tripped over a stone and fell to the ground. He avoided being stung by the scorpion since he opened his legs and the stinger landed in between them. Alec and I ran to the scorpion, but it used its claw the knock us backwards. Alec tried to advance, but the scorpion caught him and trapped him between a rock and it's stinger. Alec grunted as he used his strength to combat the claw trying to crush him. Pierce jumped from a rock onto the scorpion's back and began lighting parts of the scorpion on fire. The scorpion thrashed around causing Pierce to lose his balance. He slipped off the scorpion's back and was propelled into the side of a rock from the scorpion's tail. Alec activated his hybrid side as his eyes glowed yellow and he ripped the claw in half. The scorpion roared in pain as it's juices covered Alec. Yep. He's gonna need a new suit. Pierce shook off his dazed state and continued his onslaught of spells. I grabbed a sharp rock and propelled it into the scorpion's underbelly. Alec saw me and we repeated the same action until the scorpion stopped. Or so we thought, it knocked Pierce into the ground.
The moment Pierce hit the ground, a spiral opened up and he got sucked down. Alec looked at me wide eyed. He then raced to where Pierce vanished and jumped in. I was left to face an angry scorpion who got his left claw ripped off and had been impaled numerous times. I figured my best option was to follow the two idiots into the unknown. I turned and dashed to where they disappeared with the scorpion on my heel. I jumped in and started screaming as I slid down a slide made of sand. I whizzed past old structures and bones of prehistoric animals. The slide ended and opened up to cavern that had to be hundreds of feet high. I screamed as I shot downwards, but Alec caught my arm and used the momentum to catapult me onto the side of the cliff. He then climbed up from his previous position. Pierce was too busy dusting himself off to notice me.
"Where are we?" I asked Alec.
"Looks like an old kingdom that was previously underground." He walked passed me and into the tunnels. Pierce and I followed close behind. "We need to find a way out, but your guess is as good as mine." He smirked.
"And find a quartz to counteract the black obsidian." Pierce added. We looked around trying to figure a way out of here. Alec entered into a tunnel so Pierce and I decided to follow him. The tunnel became narrow to the point that we had to turn on our side to scoot through. Call me claustrophobic because I really hate tight spaces. We kept moving until we came to a dead end. Alec tapped the rock in front of him. He then moved his fist an inch from the wall and then struck the wall with so much force that it crumbled. Sunlight then poured through and we made our way outside. Alec brushed the dust off of his suit while I took the time to look up. We were at the base of the Grand Canyon. The people at the top were pointing down at us. I used my hearing and heard the people at the top talking about the earthquake that just happened. I glanced at Alec- the earthquake. We trekked around the Grand Canyon until we found the road. Alec stuck his thumb out signaling the trucker to stop. The trucker agreed to only take us to the nearest city, but Alec compelled him to take us to the airport.
