Chapter 16

Y/n tried to go to sleep- tossing and turning all night long. She eventually resorted to just staring at the wall for the whole night, allowing her only three hours of rest.

She went to the toilet, using some foundation to cover her dark eye circles.

She then went down the stairs, sitting on it as she stared ahead of her, mind blanking out.

The door was opened, and she glanced at the taskforce, staring at the ground again soon after.

"Near, M, I brought everyone," Watari said.

The task force was confused as Near could hide on a chair just by sitting on it. He turned around to reveal himself.

"I'm Near," He says. "Hello, Yagami-San,"

"Hello," He replies.

"You've met?" Mogi asked.

"L introduced as before he passed,"

"The name 'Near'..." Himura said.

"Like L and M, merely an alias, of course," Watari said.

"But even if the higher-ups have acknowledged this...right?" Mogi asks uncertainly.

"How old are you?" Matsuda asks.

"Is it not okay because I'm a minor?" Near asks, pouting.

"No, not necessarily," Matsuda says.

"There's no need to worry. Near, please update everyone on the situation," Watari said.

"I believe the Kira who killed L is in the Public Prosecutors Office," Near said, sitting down where L used to.

"On what basis?" Yagami asked.

"L was killed because his name was seen," Near said.

"Which means his face was seen?"Yagami asks.

"Yes. On the day L was killed, in addition to you all, the only ones who saw L were..." Near said.

"The Prosecutors Office," Aizawa said.

"Bingo!" Near said. "That day, the ones who came to confiscate the notebook were fifteen people, including Mikami Teru, Yamanobe Takayuki, Yokowada Ken, and Sawajima Ryuji," Near concluded.

"Awesome! Look, he's just as good as L and M," Matsuda said.

"Okay, let's investigate these public prosecutors," Yagami instructed as they left the room.

"Light-san. Can I call you Light-san? If I called you 'Yagami-San,' it would be the same as what I call your father," Near said.

"Yeah. Sure," Light replied.

"Thank you. L told me that you were his best friend. I'm exhilarated to get to investigate with you. Light-san, let's do our best to work together!" Near said, bowing.

"The feeling's mutual. Let's work together," Light said as Near walked away.

"If you touch a single hair on his head, I will murder you," Y/n warns Light.

"I do not plan to do that," He says.

"You two start investigating the five public prosecutors, starting with Mikami Teru," Yagami instructs, referring to Aizawa and Matsuda.

"Yes, sir."

"Himura-San, what about the administrative officials?" Yagami asks.

"I'm investigating now."

Days went by, and Kira was killing more and more day by day. Even the ones whose names weren't announced to the world. Attempting to secure the criminals' safety, their faces began to be blurred out, images leaking out onto the internet soon after.
