L sits on a chair, clearly upset. Y/n sat on the arm of his chair, experimenting with his black hair. Seeing him upset hurt her.

Sadness. Something Y/n never understood. Why be sad about something which has already happened? There's no point crying over spilled milk. Unfortunately, when you get upset, it's like being stabbed in the heart a thousand times without dying.

Y/n knows because she experienced it every time her mother had hit her as she begged for it to stop. There was always someone watching it happen. That someone who Y/n had begged not to get involved and to hide. To let her handle the pain and not him.

Y/n remembers the tears which stung like bees. Her own deafening screams that still haunted her. The shouting of her mother that permanently scarred her from childhood till now. The pain of skin hitting her own, forcing her to beg for death.

When it was all over, for the time being, another part of her soul would be chipped and removed. Afterward, it would be replaced by the same person who she insisted on protecting.

"Everyone has to at least lose once in their life," Y/n said.

"I never thought it would be human lives that I'd lose." L replied, the sadness clear in his voice.

"Then we will be better prepared next time," Y/n said as L smiled.

"Arigato." He says, wrapping his arms around her neck, bringing her closer to him for a kiss.

The Taskforce came over not long after looking at the recording and brought pictures of Mark Dwellton, Raye Penber's real name, that were taken at the place of his death.

L was still depressed, so he made Y/n sit on his lap to hug her, the task force thankfully not questioning it.

"That's the point where FBI agent, Mark Dwellton, aka Raye Penber's receiver, was removed. Kira must have realized he had it." Yagami explains.

"Kira did," Mogi says.

"According to FBI information..."

"Stop being depressed..." Y/n whispered in L's ear as he pretended that her voice didn't just send shivers down her spine.

"I didn't think they would actually get killed. There was doubt, but I didn't think the FBI agents would really die." L says.

"Least you can do now is to avenge them. Find Kira so they can rest in peace." She said, pecking his cheek and hair since the case squad wasn't looking.

"I'll find Kira if it's the last thing I do," L says.

"What's wrong with them?" Matsuda asks.

"They're depressed. L and M's allies were killed. It's only natural that they feel this way." Mogi says. "L, what's the new direction of our investigation?"

"Wait, a little longer." He says.

"We'll avenge the FBI ourselves," Matsuda says.

"No. I'm setting it up," L says.

"Setting what up?" Y/n asked.

"You'll see."

"Why won't you tell me?" The girl whined playfully.

"Have you been talking to Near too often?" He asks.

"Maybe. Shut up." Y/n retorted.

"Shut up? How dare you?" He says playfully.

"Yes, I dare," She said as L pecked her cheek, causing a smile to paint itself on her lips.

"I'm sorry for the wait," Watari said when he came back.

"How are the preparations?" L asks.

"Perfect." He says.

"Before Mark Dwellton died, he said a picture of his fiancee was seen." L said.

"A picture?" Yagami asks as Y/n made the picture appear on the screen.

"I didn't get a chance to ask him who saw it, but I thought it was Kira. So I put a transceiver on Mark Dwellton. It seems my choice was correct." L said.

"So, you used him as bait?" Matsuda asks.

"I did it to catch Kira. I didn't have a choice." L said, turning around.

"Didn't have a choice?!" Aizawa yells, walking to him and shouting in his face.

The yelling didn't fazed L. He looked down at the spot where saliva had gotten onto his shirt. Although Y/n whimpered slightly, not showing her weakness as she hated that feeling of needing to be cared for. Don't get her wrong, she likes L taking care of her, but she hates the feeling of being weak and therefore needing help every few hours.

"Watari."

"I'll bring a new one."

Watari said as L changed his shirt.

"I will now talk about what you've been waiting for, the new direction of the investigation. Kira must be one of the targets Mark Dwellton was asked to tail. There were 55 of them from 13 households." L says.

"That's a lot." Mogi comments.

"No, I thought you narrowed it down before they were killed," Yagami says.

"Yes. To a mere two families." L says.

"You narrowed it down that much?" He asks.

"M," L says.

Y/n hummed in response as she pushed a button to show the final suspects, the Yagami household and the Superintendent's family, on the screen through CCTVs.

"What is this?" Yagami asks.

"I had surveillance cameras and listening devices installed in those two households." L said.

"Surveillance cameras?" Mogi asks. "I thought you were depressed."

"One is Chief Superintendent Goda, and the other is Yagami's house," Y/n explained as she changed the screen to show the CCTVs installed in Yagami's house.

"Light-Kun!" Matuda said as if the said male could hear him.

"That's correct. Yagami-san's house." L says.

"What is the point of this?" Yagami asks.

"To find out how and what happens when Kira kills. Something L has been dying to find out." Y/n said as the male glared at her playfully.

"That's why I'm going to watch them, listen to them. To reveal who Kira is and how he kills." L says.

"You must stop this at once! There must be other ways of investigating!" Matsuda yells.

"Are you going to start an inquiry? Exposing your name and face to Kira?" L asks.

"This is a human rights violation. This would cost us more than our jobs." Mogi says.

"The last time I checked, we were risking our lives. Not jobs." Y/n said.

"I know. But..."

"Other methods have never worked on Kira," Y/n shot back.

"Matsuda, let's go take down those cameras," Aizawa says.

"Right," Matsuda replies.

"Wait. L has Kira on the ropes. Let him do it." Yagami says.

"Cheif..."

"Arigato," L says.

"In exchange, make sure you don't miss any corners of their rooms. I want to confirm the innocence of my family's and the Chief SuperIntendent's." Yagami says.

"Then, in the interests of the bare minimum of discretion, Himura-san handles the checking of the woman's room and bathrooms," L says.

"Himura-san," Yagami says as she nods.

"Otherwise, we'll monitor them 24/7," I say.

"Please work with us, everyone," Yagami says as they [Matsuda, Aizawa, and Mogi] nod reluctantly.

"Yes, sir."
