The detectives were conversing in conversation with the polices. They were demanding that they risk their lives for the Kira investigation just like them.
"You can only see us in person on one condition," Y/n says.
"Mr. Soichiro Yagami, you come alone. This is the condition." L says.
A while later, Watari opened the door, entering the room with Mr. Yagami.
"Hi. I'm M. The one wearing white is L." Y/n said, introducing themselves to the middle-aged man.
"I am Yagami." He says.
"No matter to whom. You cannot reveal your identity unnecessarily." L says, not even facing the man.
"If one of us was Kira, you would already be dead," Y/n explains.
"You're not Kira, but an ally," L says.
"Kira would likely be someone connected to the police," Y/n says, sitting down on a chair beside L.
"True. Since you told us Kira's profile, times of the dead have changed. In other words, information has been leaked. This is why you wanted to see me one on one. Why did you choose me? Are you the type to make a mistake?" He asks.
"We try not to make too many mistakes," Y/n says.
The gravest mistakes you ever make are when you only see things through the lens of your own need. To mature, to be the kind of person who makes life better for others, you must see through the lens of theirs too.
You can view history this way too. What did the conquerers think of themselves, and how did it work out for the native populations? Isn't capitalism this way? A mechanism to grab and centralize resources no matter the harm done to others?
Love enables our empathy- it allows us this view from the needs of others and gifts the ability to make better choices for everyone.
"This is regrettable, but you are worthy because of this," L says
"But it's hard to know where the information has leaked," Yagami argues.
"Not if you see the connection," Y/n says.
"Watari, show him." L says as Watari pushes a button on the keyboard.
"Kira is among them." L says as Yagami looks at the screen displayed with the names of suspects.
"We have FBI following them," Y/n says. "They're our suspects."
"FBI?" He asks.
"It wouldn't sit well with the Japanese police, so we ask you to keep this a secret," Y/n says.
"Kira is a demon. I have to find and eliminate him." L says.
"It's clear that information leaked to Kira was from the case squad. I have the FBI tailing everyone connected to them. So if they do any suspicious actions, there's a strong chance they're Kira." L says, throwing the drink package around.
"Even my family?" Yagami asks.
"Yes. Everyone connected to the police is a suspect," Y/n says.
"The fact that Kira changed the time of the deaths to thwart the suspicion that he is a student increases the likelihood that he is a student." L says, attempting to open the package only to result in a small amount of the drink getting on his shirt.
He looks at Watari, who brings him a new shirt as he changes.
"Considering Kira's actions, do you think that the strong-willed daughter is Kira? Or could that sweet-looking son of yours surprise us by proving to be him? You never know what humans are hiding beneath the surface." L says, taking off his shirt and putting on the new one.
"Stop," Yagami says.
"Sorry. It's a joke," L apologizes as he finished buttoning up his shirt.
"But you're not going to take them off your list of targets?" Yagami says.
"No. Light and Sayu are also our suspects, Yagami-San. Removing them from our list would be a grave mistake," Y/n says.
"Either way, I cannot approve of FBI investigators having free rein to investigate on Japanese soil. I am going to report this," He says, walking away.
"Do you think I made him mad?" L asks.
"Very mad," Y/n says.
Timeskip
L entertained himself by watching a show on his computer. His younger girlfriend was reading a book about Sherlock Holmes. He was the fictional man who fascinated and captured Y/n's attention with the smart ways he managed to solve even his most complicated cases.
He is also the man who made Y/n decide to be a detective.
Looking back, this might have been what attracted L to her. He was satisfied she had the qualities for which he was looking when he was first looking for a detective partner. They were also the ones he admired in a detective: intelligence, courage, discretion, and common sense.
"M, come here." L says as Y/n put her book down, much to her dismay.
The book was getting to its climax, and the culprit was about to be revealed.
"At dawn this morning, death row inmate Shiromi Masaaki wrote something like a dying message on the wall of his cell and then died of a heart attack."
"Also, around the same time, in prison in Chiba Prefecture, death row inmate Yatanaka Ken spoke the mysterious words 'Eiffel Tower' before dying of a heart attack."
"Also, in Nagoya, death row inmate Setada Sakichi escaped his cell and 30 meters to the staff bathroom before dying of a heart attack. The coroner's investigation revealed that the cause of death, in this case, was also a heart attack."
"You're suggesting that these are all works of Kira?"
"Yes. We believe that all of these dying messages and such are things the prisoners wanted us to know. In other words, these men could have a connection to Kira," Matsuda says.
"Sorry, but I'm afraid you're off the mark," L says.
"Is Kira behind this? Yes, he is. Kira made all of this happen. When putting this on the internet, please only talk about a heart attack." Y/n instructs.
"But it's already out in the media."
"Too bad. Kira may have been using these convicts to test something, and you negligently gave him his answer." L says.
"Matsuda, what were you thinking?"
"Hey, I didn't leak it."
"Then who did?"
"I don't know! Bring him in!"
"Wait a minute, L. What do you mean 'test something'?"
"Good question. For example, Kira may be preparing to kill those in his way." L says.
"Those in his way?"
"Me, L, and everyone in the case squad," Y/n replies.
"So, you're saying all of us can be killed?"
"This is bad."
"If Kira was using the convicts to run some sort of test, how does he intend to kill us?"
Days went by with no exciting activities. All the targets' assigned FBI agents' weren't reporting any strange behavior.
"Cluck, cluck, cluck." The man on the computer screen says with an inflated balloon on his head.
"Is that funny?" Watari asks.
"He could be acting," L says.
"Comedians do have to act out a character," Watari says.
The balloon pops, and the man looks dazed. L walks towards the screens with the status of the targets' actions.
"Has he realized what we're doing?" L asks.
