"No, come back! Oh you're so not getting away with it come back you little BRAT!" I scream at my little sister Claire who apparently thinks that it's okay to dump a bucketful of sand on me and just run away. I chase her through the sand occasionally stumbling over some pebbles. I finally catch up with her, because, let's face it how far can her teeny tiny legs take her? I wrestle her to the ground with her face in the sand. But then, as the total party pooper my dear little sister is, she starts crying. I can hear her muffled sobs and then let her go before she decides it a better idea to go rat it out to mum. I release my grip and stand up, extending my own hand to help Claire up. "Hey hey come on now", she has her face covered with her palms so I can't see her. Honestly she is SUCH A DRAMA QUEEN. I look around for mum and to my luck she still hasn't spotted us like this. I sit on my knees and let out an exaggerated sigh. I'm about to apologise when all at once a spray of sand hits me front and centre on my face. That little....... See what I said about her being a total DRAMA QUEEN? Claire jumps up laughing and runs away before I can murder her. Despite it all I can't help but smile a little.

We're on the beach today, my mum, Claire and I. I still think it's a bribe trip and a way to apologise for moving to California from Mexico. That is typical mum style of making up on her wrongdoings. Plan a surprise trip or something and then assume that everything is back to normal.

I wade into the ocean to wash off the sand stuck on me, courtesy of my dear little sister. I slowly reach the deeper waters where it reaches up to my stomach.

I look back at my sister building a sand castle and my mum lying on one the purple carpet she loves in the sand while reading a magazine. I smile to myself as I realise that maybe this place isn't so bad after all.

Suddenly the water recedes and the resulting level reaches just my knees as I feel the current try to pull me deeper. I turn back and I see one of the largest waves reaching up to my neck. It came so fast and dragged me with it. Water entered my mouth and the pure shock made me swallow the salty water and the salt stung my eyes. I stood up after the wave and coughed but no sooner did I take a breath than another enormous wave swept me under. All I could see was the sand floating in the water. I was thrashed around by the current like a limp doll. A few seconds later my sight went all fuzzy and my mind went blank and I felt my limbs get heavy.

Next thing I knew I was choking and trying to scream but somehow the water just kept taking me deeper and deeper.

I woke up, sweating and wheezing. I looked around. No beach or Claire. Just the hospital I'd been trapped in for so many hours now.
