Trish looked at me, a bit of hesitation clearly etched on her face. I nudged her forward.
She had to go. This was her chance.
She tucked a strand of her loosely tied black hair behind her ear and whispered, "Um, I kinda have something to tell you, too."
The two of them walked off, and I mentally wished Trish all the luck she needed.
That left Alex, Ava, Audrey and me.
I'd made up my mind. I'd let him go. And anyways, he deserved better.
He deserved Audrey.
Alex has been casting nervous glances at Audrey, and I know she noticed them.
I was almost caught off guard when Alex asked me, "Hey Sasha can I talk to you?" and without waiting for an answer, he pulled me aside, away from Ava and Audrey.
"What do I do?" he asked.
His dark, messy hair, so soft.
"Well, do you like her?"
He nods.
"Then tell her how feel, right now."
"But what if"
"This is no time for what-ifs, Alex." I cut him off. "She likes you too, a lot."
His angel-like soft features, caught in the autumn light.....
He sighed.
The blue in his eyes, so striking, so beautiful.
"What if I'm not good enough?" he asks, cutting me off from my pathetic, treacherous thoughts.
"You, Alex Carter, are good enough for every girl out there." I smile and say.
He looks up and his blue eyes meet the green of mine.
For just a single second, I feel something flicker in that blue.
But the next moment, it's gone.
It was just a vision.
He smiles at my comment, and his whole face lights up, his soft lips curl up in a beautiful smile.
"Thank you, Sasha," he says.
In that moment, seeing him smile, I realise something.
Seeing him smile, it's the only thing I want to see him do, even if that smile isn't because of me.
In a second, he's gone and heading towards Audrey.
No. I can't see this. I can't I can't I CAN'T.
I catch Ava's attention and motion her to come with me. Away from them.
She nods and follows me, and we walk away.
For one last time, I stop in my way.
I turn back and look at the both of them.
Audrey looks so happy, happier than I've seen her in a long time.
And Alex, his face lightening up with hope and tenderness.
I see their gazes locked, and then Alex stops speaking, and slowly, Audrey nods to something.
Nononononononono
I whip my face to Alex, my legs now buckling, weak like spaghetti.
I see disbelief on his face first, and then, slowly, his face brightens. He breaks out in a smile, and he looks as if he and never been happier, and content and........
I broke.
Inside, I laughed at my stupid, delusional heart.
What was I thinking?
This was it.
This was goodbye.
