When I finally woke up, my ears sensed things first.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry Mrs. Conrad I didn't know what was going on and I was so confused and panicked and.............."

Someone else was sobbing uncontrollably.

I still couldn't register what exactly was going on around me.

All I could hear was a jumble of voices.

Then another voice spoke. It sounded as if it was very close.

"Please, will she be all right?"

My eyes snapped open.

Only one voice I knew could do that to me.

His voice.

Alex was here. He'd come.

As senses slowly flooded through me I realised that my head was lying on someone's lap. And that person was stroking my hair.

That person's face was the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes.

I had to blink a few times for my vision to clear, but even without that I could make out the dark messy hair, blue eyes stark against cream white skin.

Alex.

None of the m had noticed that I was awake.

I close my eyes and his touch when his hand went through my hair.

Close. He was so close.

This is where I wanted to be for my whole life. With him.

I looked around and saw mum, Claire, Trish, Ava and Audrey huddled around.

Audrey.

I had to get away from him.

I moved my hands and rubbed my face.

Everyone saw this movement.

I hoisted myself up and sat on the floor cross-legged.

I took a closer look at everyone's faces.

All of them looked pale and white.

Every face was laced with concern and........and something else I couldn't recognise.

A second later, mum rushed over to me and pulled me into a hug.

I patted her back awkwardly.

Need I remind you, I do not do well in sad situations.

When she pulled back, I saw tears in her eyes.

That's when I realised what that other expression on everyone's faces was.

Fear. Ghostly fear.

Mum quickly brushed away her tears.

I noticed we were still in Ava's room.

Everyone took turns hugging me with that same look : gaunt and white.

Everyone except Audrey.

She smiled and gave me a happy hug, one like she always did.

I was surprised, but glad.

While hugging me, she whispered so that no one else heard it, "I know you don't like sad hugs, so I'll give you a happy one."

I sighed.

She had remembered. Remembered when no one else had.

When we pulled apart, she said with a grin, "I see you're awake, sleepyhead. Had sweet dreams?"

I realise what she was doing. She had been trying to lighten the mood. To make me feel better.

It had worked, too.

I grin back. "Are we still on for that sleepover?"

Ava and Trish had been confused first, how we were so cheerful, but then they caught on.

"Hell YEAH,", Ava replied.

Trish just grinned.

Alex rolled his eyes and muttered, "Girls".

We laughed.

An hour later, when mum and Claire left for home(after questioning me very thoroughly if I was going to be alright, almost threatening me) and Alex agreed to leave after dinner, all of us went to sit in Ava's bedroom.

Trish cleared her throat.

"Um....guys, I have some news."

She blushed.

BLUSHED!!! Trish never BLUSHED.

Unless, of course.......

"I may have a crush on someone".

All of us stared.

Ava was the first one to recover.

She kept her hand on her chest and pointed to Trish in an accusing way. "Who are you and WHAT have you done to our Trish?"

Trish, however, just blushed some more.

She was sitting beside me, so it was relatively easy to just nudge her. But she was the last person you'd want to tease.

She also wasn't someone to have crushes.

I saw Alex's eyes brighten and his lips curling up in a slow smirk.

"I feel so sorry for that poor guy", he says....

Trish's eyes narrowed.

"Aren't you gonna ask me WHO that guy is?" she questioned.

"Do you want us to ask you WHO that guy is?" I threw back at her.

Alex laughed. The two of us had done this a lot in the past.

To our surprise, though, Trish actually smirked in reply.

"Yeah, I think you'll want to know," she whispered.
