I'm sitting on the couch reading one of my favorite books 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' wearing my favorite grey sweatshirt when the doorbell rings. I'm alone at home so I get up, though reluctantly, 'coz hey let me just make it very clear that being disturbed and made to get up while reading isn't one of my favourite things.
So I make my way to the foyer and open the door to reveal a very disgruntled looking Ava. Her messy blonde hair is pulled into a sleek ponytail and she's wearing a black hoodie she has been bragging about since the last week she brought it when we went shopping together and light blue denims. I can tell the she hasn't showered yet but she somehow manages to look good in anything. All she says in her bubbly voice is,"TOTAL-EMERGENCY-SASH-I-CANT-FIND-A-DRESS-FRO-THE-DANCE-AND-IT'S-FREAKING-ME-OUT", and rushes in and heads upstairs towards my room.
"Yeah good morning to you too" I mumble.
Typical Ava. Stressed about tiny things (mostly about her clothing), and my house, apparently happens to be her 'therapy place'.
Alright. About Ava. She has a bubbly and confident personality and she wears it around like a crown. LITERALLY. There aren't a lot of time I've seen her messed up (unless you count these minor clothing fiascos), and I've known her since a long time, about 4 years.
I followed her up the stairs and into my room. She's already rummaging through my closet. I don't have a huge closet or anything. She just likes to go through my clothes. She says it 'sparks inspiration' to her.
Don't get me wrong, Ava has one of the best personalities I know. She has always been there for me, and honestly speaking, I love her. She's this outgoing person with such a bubbly personality she can honestly make climbing mountains look like driving a car. And neither is she that typical mean girl cliche like she seems.
"What are you wearing to the dance?"she asks me with her back still to me.
I'm plopped on my bed with my legs crossed under me. "Uhhhhh there's this black dress my mom gifted to me on my birthday", I say. "She says it really compliments my hair and eyes." But I'm just wearing it 'coz first, I don't have anything else to wear and second, it makes my legs look good.
She spots the dress in my closet and pulls it out. "Can you please try it on for me? I wanna see how you look. Pretty please?" She makes her puppy eyes at me. I sigh and say, "sure. Pass it on", and go inside the bathroom and put it on. Actually I do look good.
I go into the room. Ava's brown eyes widen when she looks at me and mutters, "wow", and I feel my cheeks flush. She walks over to me and says, "You really are stunning, Sasha Conrad. Now just untie that rubber." I take the rubber off and shake my hair a bit. Ava grins and nods her head in appreciation. I return the grin and check myself out in the mirror.
"Well looks like someone has their dress decided." she said. "O god! I seriously have nothing to wear it makes me SICK!"
I raises my eyebrows at that little comment.
She noticed that little gesture of mine and flinched. Hard. "I - well I didn't - oh my god I'm - just I'm sorry", she stumbled over her words.
I couldn't get myself to meet her eyes.

Okay time for a flashback.
Just a week ago, I had been sitting on my couch and watching TV. Mum called me to the kitchen to taste some of the apple pie she had been experimenting with. I grabbed a spoon and knife and went near the oven. Mum opened the door or, well, the latch and the delicious smell of apple pie wafted through and filled my nose, giving it a promise for a treat. Mum looked pretty pleased with herself. She put on her favourite sea blue mitts and took out the pie.
She brought it to me and I was about to take a huge scrumptious bite out of it, when it happened.
A blinding flash of white hot pain.
The spoon and knife I was holding clattered to the floor.
