"Sure, why not," I replied to Jc casually even though I was gagging inside with excitement and nervousness.
"Sure, why not?" Jc mocked me. "Is that all I get for being brave enough to ask you out?"
"Well you did have a mouthful of chips while doing it, so it that all I get?" I challenged.
"Well damn," he continued and popped a handful in his mouth.
I put my hands on my hips and stared at him for a while. I don't even know why though. Sounds weird huh? But when I look at him all the moments flow back. The good, the bad and the unsure. I'm second guessing agreeing to go on this date. And then I start to think, what if he doesn't like me? Or I say the wrong things? And then I say to myself, It's just plain, old Jc. The one that you thought was the biggest jerk last week, yeah, him.
"C'mon, let's go upstairs," I begin to head into the hallway. "And leave the chips!"
Jc obliged and followed me to my room.
"What are we doing?" He looked bored.
"Uh, I gotta get ready for this so called 'date' so you might as well help me," I replied while picking some different things out.
"Boring, just slap something on and lets go watch tv."
"It doesn't work like that Jc," I gave him an annoyed face.
He plopped down on my bed and put his feet up. He placed his crossed arms behind him to rest his head on. I, mean while, plugged in my curling wand and tossed him the tv remote.
"Now this is more like it."
I rolled my eyes at him.Soon enough, I was done with my hair and I had put some light mascara and lib balm on. Time for the outfit. I'm going for a casual but dressy look. I went into my walk in closet and peaked through the cracked door at Jc. His eyes scanned the room and then he went back to intently watching tv.
I had put on a white lace dress, a jean jacket, and a scarf to make it look like I tried because I actually did for once. I went over to my accessory dresser and put on some jewelry and a beanie. Now for the shoes. Heels are out. There's no way I'm making a fool of myself tonight. I grabbed my light brown combat boots and put them on. I boosted myself off the floor and checked the full length mirror. I hope I don't look stupid, or I'm not overdoing it. Is he even gonna like this?
"Can you hurry up in there?" Jc shouted.
"I don't know?" I shouted back posing in the mirror.
"What's taking so long?" He replied."Don't worry, I'll like it if that's what you're worried about."
Did Jc just read my mind? I didn't respond. Instead, I looked through the rest of my clothes for something different. Suddenly, Jc burst through the door. He scanned me with awe.
"You look... great."
"Jc your drooling," I laughed.
"Sorry, only a few people have that effect on me," he winked before strolling out of the closet with me following."My parents should be home any minute," I straightened my dress out and waited with Jc in the kitchen for their arrival. "Make a good impression, please."
"Don't worry, I got it all under control, babe," he gave me a smirk and wink.
My heart flutters when he calls me that. It makes me melt for him. If this kid only knew how much I think about him. That's probably one of the main reasons why I missed so many on the chemistry test. Jc's cologne was teasing my nostrils the whole time. It just made me want to hug him and squeeze my head into his chest. Ok, that sounds a bit creepy, Ali.Just then, the garage door went up and the sound of footsteps trotted in through the door.
"Hello Alison, must I say you look very nice today. Who's your friend?" My mom asked. Normal her, making a good impression on everybody.
"I'm Jc, Mrs. Espinosa. What a fine house you have."
Well Jc was nailing it on the head with my mom. Now just for my dad.
"Why thank you Jc, I put forth a lot of effort to decorate this place."You know my dads home when you hear a deep sigh and brief case close.
His eyes immediately shot over to me and Jc standing next to each other.
He cleared his throat, "Alison." He tilted his head down towards me.
"Hi daddy, this is Jc," I turned towards Jc and it looks as if he can see how nervous I am based on the ways our eyes stared into each other.
"Mr. Espinosa, I'm Jc," they shook hands. "And I wanted your permission to take your lovely Alison on a date tonight."
Before my dad could discourage us, my mom stepped in. For once in my life, I actually feel my mom looking out for me.
"Now, Darrel, it's a Friday. Cut Alison some slack," she soothingly rubbed his arm.
My dad clenched his jaw before turning back to face us,"curfews 12."We pulled up to the restaurant in no time. Jc oped my door and I gave him a big smile. We laced hands together. I started to panic about the small things. What if my hand sweats? What if I order something too expensive? What if anyone sees us here?
"Ali, calm down," Jc soothed me and brushed a stray strand of hair from my face using his free hand. I forced a smile, but I don't think he bought it.We got to our reserved table, and something immediately felt out of place. I was on a date with Jc. A date with the most popular boy in high school. A date with the guy that all girls dream about. Me. A date with Jc. An out of place date with Jc. I couldn't help but notice Chloe death glaring me from the other side of the room. She seriously has to be here now! Jc has always been her main prey. She is gonna absolutely hate me for being here with him. She always wanted him and he never wanted any long term girl. That reason, I'm not sure. I should ask him about that sometime.
I finished up my meal and I couldn't wait to go. Chloe didn't take her eyes off me the whole time.
From Jc's angle he couldn't see her.
"I, uh, need some air," I excused myself.
Chloe smirked and watched me embarrassingly walk to the patio."What's up?" Jc leaned his arms against the railing.
"I just," I sighed. "Chloe looks ready to stab me."
"Chloe? The popular girl that wants me? She's here?" He raised his eyebrows at me.
"Ya, Jc. I bet she's gripping her knife real hard at me," I rubbed my temples."Oh wait. I watched her do that."
I wouldn't be reacting this much if it wouldn't have been Chloe. She could end my life in the snap of her fingers. She has so much power over people. Especially guys.
Why the hell doesn't Jc just go out with her? She throws herself at him and he barely gives her a second glance?
"Listen, Ali," he held my hand. "If I wanted to be here with her, I wouldn't have asked you."
I gave him a warm smile and I admired him. Not in a creepy way but in a way of relief. It's hard to believe how I had judged him too quickly that first night. He's such a great person and I tried so hard to shove him away."Oh goodie, there she is now," I rolled my eyes and could see her out of the corner of my eye. She was strutting towards me and Jc. Chloe was a distance away, but I could still see her every move. She sucked her stomach in, wiggled her hips, and made extra sure to clank her heels on the floor.
"Don't pay attention to her, Ali."
"How can I not, Jc? She's absolutely stunning and more your type. How am I suppose to avoid her?"
Chloe was now a couple steps away from us.
"Like this," and with that Jc grabbed my face smashed his lips on mine.
