Location: Florida | July 21st | 3:45 PMMelanie POV:
"I swear on my muva if my granny not hea when I get off this plane, I'm gone fuckin spazz yo." I whined as I walked through the airport looking for my luggage. Don't you hate walking in crowded places and it feel like everybody just staring at you. Like uhhh eyeballs bitch!Muthafuckas act like they never seen a fine ass chocolate bitch befo' , if you wanna picture say that like damn giving the girls fan vibes. Finally I spotted my luggage snatching it and speed walking towards the front of the airport.
"Melanieeeeeeeee!!!, Miss Melanieeeee" a squeaky voice screeched. I snapped my head to my right spotting my bestfriend Maddie and granny. "God is soo goodt, cause it's scorching hot out here and yunno all this fine chocolate woulda been done melted." I muttered as I strutted over towards my granny's all black Escalade.
"Ouuuu y'all so damn ghetto AND I love it that's how you greet a bad bi-" I started to say only to cut off by Granny. "Yea Lani, I wish the fuck you would finish that sentence, see if I won't throat chop yo ass." Granny said doing ugly tight lip smirk, earning a chuckle from Maddie. (Y'all know black mamas do that when they serious asf lmao).
"Maddison ion know why you got so much to ah-akee-akee about, like I ain't throat chop you on the way over heaa chile, nah Lani come give me some luv." Granny said matter-of-factly. "And I-oop.. granny you down bad fah dat yunno I was excited to see Mel" Maddie stated folding her arms. Giggling at them, I dropped my bags and bear hugged my granny cause it is true, I missed her bad. Those 4 months felt like 4 damn years.
We loaded up all my luggage into the car and headed to my granny house, the only place I've ever known as home.
"Dam- , I mean dangggg just chill granny fr" I chuckled grabbing her hand befo' she could hit me. "Can't even lemme say what imma say!" I huffed. Me and Maddie made eye contact, smirked then as if on cue... "Like relaxxxxxx" we screamed in sync. "Yall aggy, this why-"
"Nyny your favorite... blah blah blah! Baby I already know miss girl. If you've just let me talk da first time I was just finna ask about Nyny. Cause if he ain't wanna be my cousin no mores he can just say datttttttttt!" I snapped rolling my eyes. "You so dramatic best." Maddie giggled. My granny just held a smug look on her face, shaking her head indicating to me that Nyny indeed had pissed her earlier.
Little did they know I dead ass wanted to fall the fuck out and have a tantrum when I didn't see Nyny wanting for me at the airport with them. Like how your supposed to be fave cousin don't come pick you up from the airport after a whole 4 month trip. I mean he did tell me he wasn't talking to me after I told him I was staying an extra month but that wasn't my fault damn! Its sad ion take nun serious or maybe I just didn't think his bitch ass would be so petty and really keep ignoring me.
See me and Nah'jour aka Nyny have lived with our granny since we were 7, when his mom died and mines got sent away on 15 year prison sentence. Yea we have other siblings but that's a story for another day. Due to my dad being deported 2 years prior and Nyny dad serving a life sentence in Louisiana, the only option was for our granny to take us in. Since jitts days we've been inseparable. We literally are born 1 day apart, it's like God wanted us to be evil twins or sumn.
As the Maze and Frankie Beverly soundtrack played lowly in my granny truck, I just leaned my head against the window thinking about if I should be just as petty when I finally see Nyny. I mean I understand how his feelings could be hurt bout me leaving him. We never been away from each other that long, hell we FaceTimed everyday till he got mad. And his rock head ass down bad for dat cause he know ion fuck with nobody like dat. Nah I'm not gone be petty. Cause imma real nigga, i can't flag like I ain't miss my dawg!
Location: 31st Street
As I continue to look out the window, I notice we were spinning my block... 31st Street. Ahhhh home sweet hood lol. Yea we live in the ghetto, it ain't the bottom like dirty ass 33rd Street projects but it's fasho the fuckin trenches. But my mama n' her twin bought my granny and papa this house 20 years ago and if ya ask me it's the nicest shit on the block. Nah scratch dat if you ask anybody who ain't no hater they know this the nicest house on the block. So hell we ain't trippen my people always told us "it's not where you stay, it's how you stay" and with that being said we living good in the hood. Hell the hood all we know anyways. Both my granny and papa folks from 31st Street, we three generations in. We ain't new to this we true to this if ya ask around the Laniers & Owens families own 31st Street."Raasclaat!" I exclaimed as we approached closer my granny yard. I could see one too many muthafuckas on the porch, balloons, and wait bitch is that a "Welcome Home Banner" wayment miss mamas I'm confusion. "LANI IMMA FUCK YOU UP LEAVE DAT SHIT IN JAMAICA WITH YA GUHDAMN DADDY GUH, DONT GET TO SPEAKIN DAT SHIT! I MIGHT NOT KNOW PATOIS BUT I KNOW YO BLACK ASS IS CUSSING SO WHEN YOU GET BACK TO THE STATES SPEAK ANGLISHHH" my granny yelled hitting the brakes making me hit my head against the headrest.
"Granny pleaseeeee, cause first of all its English" I laughed uncontrollably, rubbing my forehead. "But no fr Hold up granny I think we pulling up at the wrong house, Maddie wake yo raggedy behind up I know you ain't sleep fr.. what's going on y'all?" I asked puzzled. Cause I just know they ain't do all this lil ole me. As we finally pulled in front of the house I didn't know what facial expression to make cause I seen faces I knew, didn't know, and some I wish I never met. "Fix yo face chile, good God it's like I been telling you that all your life you damn near grown and still can't control that lil resting chick face, Laniii boo smile this for you." My granny replied with a proud smirk as she dropped the back window.
"Yeaaaaa the princess of 31st has arrived, peasants CLEAR DA WAY! My best just jumped... off a jet hannnnnn" Maddie hollered leaning over me to hang out the window with her tongue out.
Almost immediately it's like the record scratched, the music stopped and all eyes were on me. As all the attention shifted to me, my cheeks heated. If I wasn't so brown, lord knows my cheeks would be rosy red. After a brief silence, I open my door to get out. It was as if the crowd was trying to see if it was really me, I soon heard many mutters and screams pleasant and unpleasant as I begin to walk up to my granny's porch ... "Mels home" , "dat 31st baby is backkk" , "we missed you." , "damn that's she look different" , "I thought she wasn't coming back" , "her black ass finally home" , "Melanie Jackson in the fleshhh, we love to see it."
