a girl in camo pants sits outside.
it is too dark to see the stars.
she searches anyway.
she finds a few faint ones, and turns them over in her mind, studying them and whispering to them.
she thinks of him.
she hopes he can see the very same stars that she sees in that moment.
she thinks to herself
about how he might be looking up at the very same sky that she is right now.
she wishes she had his red sweater.
its chilly.
so goes inside to lay in bed and stare at the ceiling for a few hours.
she grabs something out of her closet,
and lays down.
she misses him so much, its overwhelming.
she prays that he got her message.
a boy in a red sweater
looks up at the stars.
he looks around him,
most of the lights in the city have gone out.
leaving the sky exposed.
he looks back up, and he smiles.
he is a human,
he is alive.
he is so loved.
he looks at the watch tower, looming nearby.
he thanks the sky for the stardust that runs through his veins.
he thinks he hears a voice, just for a moment.
the wind whispers to him,
"i miss you. please come home."
he knows that so many people send this message.
he knows one of them is her.
he feels tears prickle in his eyes, but fights them away.
he is so, so very loved.
he knows that.
i hope to god he knows that.
