autumn

As soon as Autumn woke up the next day she added Michael to her contacts and, after showering and getting dressed, she called him.

"I wanted to stay longer last night I just have stuff to do today b-"

"It's okay," Michael said softly.

"What are you doing today?" She inquired as she opened her fridge.

"Going shopping with my mum," Michael groaned.

"Have fun."

Autumn poured some orange juice into a glass, continuously glancing up at the clock. She knew she was going to be late for her appointment.

"Uh I was wondering if you wanted to come to my band practice at around 5?"

"You're in a band?"

"Yeah, we kind of suck but it's fun."

"I bet you're great. I would love to come."

"Do you want me to pick you up or?"

"Yeah thanks. I'll text you my address. I've go to go now bye," Autumn said speedily and hoped Michael understood what she was saying.

She hung up, tossed her phone onto the couch and ran up the stairs.

20 minutes later she was in her car driving to her appointment. Autumn knew she procrastinated too much but that didn't change the fact that she was still late for everything.

After driving as fast as legally possible, she made it to her appointment 5 minutes late which earned her a disapproving look from her psychiatrist.

"Sorry," Autumn sighed, collapsing onto the chair.

Autumn's psychiatrist, Charlie, just nodded and clicked her pen.

"How are you today?" Charlie asked Autumn, observing her over the top of her glasses.

"Better than I have been."

"Do you know why that is?"

"I met this guy yesterday and he's just really amazing."

Charlie scribbled down random things and then asked, "Do you feel like this is a relationship you need in your life?"

Autumn pondered on the question for several seconds and then answered, "For the first time in a long time, I feel hopeful."

-

"A glass of orange juice, please," Autumn ordered, playing with the change in her hand.

After her appointment, she really didn't feel like going back home so she decided to go and buy a few CDs and get a drink.

Thanking the guy at the counter, she took her drink from his hand and handed him the money.

He smiled genially at her as she rotated around to head towards a table.

As she did so, another person was walking past her which resulted in the two bumping into each other.

In a matter of seconds, the drink went all over her shirt.

The juice quickly soaked the front of her shirt.

She cursed under her breath and looked at the drenched shirt and then at the person who had walked into her.

Fumbling with the napkin dispenser, the blonde haired guy in front of her repeatedly said he was sorry and that he was clumsy.

"It's fine." She reassured him, taking the napkins from his hand.

Repeatedly, she rubbed her shirt with the napkins but it didn't make much of a difference.

The guy took off his black sunglasses as he ran a hand through his blonde quiff and then he looked down at Autumn's shirt.

"Nice shirt by the way, that band is awesome." He said, a smile tugging at his lips.

Disgruntled, Autumn shook her head at his comment and started walking to the nearest empty table.

"Hey let me buy you another shirt and another drink." He called after her.

She accepted his kind offer and she took a seat as he got back in the line to buy Autumn's drink.

-

"I'm Luke by the way," He introduced himself as they headed to the nearest music store.

"Autumn."

-

"So, are you a big music fan?"
Autumn asked Luke as she browsed through some CDS, sometimes picking one up and checking out the song list.

"Yes, obviously! Who wouldn't be!" Luke replied, making it seem like Autumn had asked him if he liked breathing. "Music is my life."

"That's such a cheesy thing to say," Autumn groaned.

"Well, maybe I'm a cheesy person," Luke responded, smiling smugly.

She glanced over at him and rolled her eyes.

Luke managed to catch her gaze and he smiled widely at her, his dimples becoming noticeable.

Admittedly, Autumn thought he was cute but thought that it didn't matter anyway because she wouldn't see him again.

-

"Do you think we'll ever see each other again?" Luke asked, frowning and handing Autumn bag with the recently purchased shirt in.

"Maybe I'll spill a drink on you next time," Autumn said, grasping the bag.

"Sydney is a big place but you never know," was what she added before turning around and walking away.
