autumn
Autumn stepped inside of Luke's house and closed the door behind her, the smell of cooked food distinct in the air.
A man, who definitely showed some resemblance to Luke entered, walked over to the Autumn and Luke, a smile filling his face.
"Hello Luke's girlfriend," He chirped.
"This is Jack, my annoying ol-"
Jack punched Luke in the arm, making
Luke wince in pain and interrupt his sentence.
"-Older brother," He finished his sentence, glaring at Jack and rubbing his upper arm. "Jack, this is Autumn."
"Nice to meet you," Jack said genially, shaking Autumn's hand.
"There's also Ben, the one with the apartment." Luke told Autumn.
"The successful one." He added.
"Do you want me to kick your ass in front of your girlfriend?" Jack threatened, looking at his brother with a smirk on his face.
"You couldn't-"
In a matter of seconds, Jack had grabbed Luke, putting him in a headlock but before he could hit him, Liz entered the hall.
"Seriously boys, we have a guest!" She scolded, a look of exasperation on her face.
They hastily parted, shooting glares at each other as Liz shook her head disapprovingly at them, her hands on her hips.
"Autumn," Jack said, looking over at her and smiling. "I'll show you to the living room. Plenty of baby pictures in there."
He linked arms with Autumn and gestured forward to the room adjacent to them.
"I'm warning you now, he wasn't always this cute," Jack laughed as they crossed the threshold.
"Fuck you," Luke muttered behind him.
"Language Luke!" Liz chided.
"Sorry." Autumn heard him mumble, making a small smile appear on her face.
The living room was fairly small with a prominent white rug in the centre of the room in front of a sofa. There were many small photo frames on the walls, giving it a sort of family feel.
"This is him when he was two," Jack said, pointing to a photo of a baby on the wall.
"Aw," Autumn said, looking ahead at the picture.
"Go away, Jack," Luke grunted, standing next beside Autumn.
A chuckled left Jack's lips as he ruffled his brother's hair. "Okay Lucas."
"Sorry about him," Luke sighed as soon as Jack had exited the room.
"It's okay."
-
Autumn was sat at the table, with Luke to her right, Luke's parents on the other side of the table and Jack at the end.
Luke's family had been asking her questions in an attempt to get to know her as they all ate spaghetti bolognese.
"What do you parents do?"
"Uh it's just my mum and she works at an insurance company."
"Do you have any siblings?"
"No."
"Plans for the future?"
"I'm still trying to figure that one out."
They asked her several questions like this and although she still felt awful, she thought she had managed to make a good impression.
As the dinner table was being cleared, Autumn got her phone out from her pocket and texted Michael.
