That morning the streets were bustling as a furniture company van stopped in front of my new apartment complex. I watched as two guys got out of the van and went to the back, opening it. I pulled out my phone, looking at the time and put it back in my back pocket with a sigh.
"I thought your friend was free today." I turned my head towards the door that was stuck open for the day.
"He is. I guess something popped up last minute." I said.
I felt an arm wrap around my shoulders, making me look up at the rabbit woman. "Then count yourself lucky that I'm still here, birdie!"
By noon, we decided to take break. The moving men decided to eat their lunch in their van while I and Rumi ate our lunch on the floor of my penthouse from my cooler. I pulled out a turkey sandwich with pepperoni and cheese while Rumi pulled out a salad with carrots being a majority of the salad. I eat my sandwich as Rumi looked around my penthouse like a kid in the candy store.
"This is a pretty since place, birdie." She commented. "How did you afford this while being a returning hero?"
I looked at her as she stared at me, taking bites of her salad. "I still had money saved from when I was an active hero years ago." I explained. "It's one of the times I'm grateful Aizawa taught me how to budget and how to wisely use my money and all." Rumi looked at me and then pointed at the furniture that came off the van. "I lived with brother remember? Didn't really have my own furniture before and now."
A knock on my balcony door caught our attention and made us look at the window. My eye twitched as I saw Hawks flying in front of my door with Shizou under him. I got off the floor, marching over to the balcony door and opened it. I glared at both men before grabbing Hawks by his jacket collar and dragging him inside, and in turn Shizou.
"Wings closed now." I ordered as I let go of his collar and closed my balcony door. I turned around and saw Shizou dust himself off as Hawks looked around my penthouse, whistling. "This is why you were late?" I glared at Shizou.
Shizou looked at me, running his fingers through his hair. "Yeah...sorry about that. Bird Brain literally would stop harassing me last night about what we were talking about and then I tried to out run him but..."
"He caught you and held you against your will in the sky, got it." I finished, pinching the bridge of my nose. I looked around, seeing Hawks and Rumi chat as if they already knew each other. "Well since you two men took your sweet time getting here, you can go downstairs and bring the other half of the furniture up here since Rumi and I got the other half up here." I stated, making Hawks and Rumi look at me, both with smug looks on their faces as I heard Shizou sigh behind me.
"Sure thing, songbird." Hawks winked, taking off his jacket and placing it on the counter.
Rumi tilted her head with a confused look her face. "Songbird?" She then looked at me. "Either he's flirting or he doesn't know what type of bird you are."
I sighed and shrugged my shoulders as Hawks and Shizou left the apartment, leaving the door open. "I honestly don't know...but at least he damn wore civilian clothing so no paparazzi I hope." I sighed. "Alright let's get this living room set up."
By the time night fell, Hawks was laying on my living room floor while Rumi, Shizou and I sat on my couch, watching him. "Was the bedroom stuff really that heavy to carry?" I asked.
"No. He's just being dramatic...or really weak." Shizou said.
Rumi just looked at him and kicked him in his leg, making him cry in pain. "Yep! He's weak." Rumi beamed as Hawks cried.
"I'm not weak!" Hawks cried. "Just..."
"Just what?" I pressured.
Hawks looked at me before crying dramatically again. "YOU GUYS ARE SO MEAN TO ME!"
We all sighed before hearing a knock at my door. "You expecting anyone else?" Shizou asked.
"Yeah. Food." I answered, getting up and opening the door. I reached into my shorts, pulling out some cash and flipping through it before ignoring the fact delivery man had a nosebleed. I took the bag out of his hand, replacing it with the money before turning back inside and closing the door. I placed the bag on the counter and looked up, seeing Hawks, Rumi, and Shizou look at me. "What?"
"The delivery man literally had a nosebleed and you didn't and don't seem concerned about that at all." Shizou stated, making me blink a couple of times.
"Who wants food?!"
It was midnight when Rumi and Shizou left my apartment. I was cleaning up after Rumi while Hawks sat on one of my island chairs, watching me. I threw the last container away and looked back at Hawks. "Why are you still here? Don't you have work or mentoring in a few hours?" I asked.
"Yeah, but I just want to make sure you settle in nicely and all." Hawks said. "It is my duty as a hero after all."
I rolled my eyes as I leaned against the counter, looking him dead in the eyes. "Right." We just stared at each other, the silence filling the room before I opened my mouth. "How do you know Rumi?"
Hawks snapped out his thoughts as he blinked. "W-who?" He asked. "Oh! You mean Mirko!" He corrected himself. "We met during a rescue and a villain capture. She was more focused on the capture while I was on the rescue...she actually ended up kicking me in the chest and made me crash into a car." He explained. "Though when she introduced herself, she completely focused on my wings, though for a different reason than other people. I didn't understand why until I saw her here in your new apartment." He started tapping his finger on the counter before stopping, looking me in the eyes. "How do you know her?"
"We went to UA High together." I answered. "Same course, the hero course, but different grade levels. She was an upper classmen, a third year, but it didn't matter to her when she introduced herself to me at lunch and since then we were inseparable in a sense." A smile came to my face I remembered how close we were. "Though we went to different heroes for internships and work studies, we still ended up working together."
"And who did you intern and do your work studies with?" Hawks asked, his fingers drumming against the counter again.
I watched as fingers drummed against the counter, starting to sound like punches against my mid-section as I started thinking about my first internship. I snapped out of my thoughts and stood up. "It's not something I really don't like to talk about." I said. "But enough about me...what about you, Hawks? Who did you intern and do work studies with?"
Hawks stopped drumming his fingers against the counter and looked at the counter as if he were deep in his thoughts. He quickly snapped out of them as he pulled out his phone. "Wow. Would you just look at the time? I better get home. Have to be bright and wide-eyed for my intern right?" He jumped out of the stool and walked over to my balcony, opening the doors.
I followed behind him and leaned against the balcony frame, arms crossed as Hawks opened his wings. "Exactly." I grinned. "And if you have any trouble with Tokoyami, which you shouldn't, don't call me."
Hawks looked over his shoulder, grinning at me. "Even if I wanted to...I don't have your number. Mind giving it to me?"
Ichuckled and shook my head. "Have a nice night, Hawks." I bid goodbye to Hawksas I go inside, closing and locking the balcony door before going to bed.
