My Diet Coke Lesson

Cammy's P.o.V.

"You must tell me, how did you indeed pull off your magnificent show with the hydra yesterday?" Chiron asked as we strolled through, deeper, into the trees.

I messed with my fingers nervously. "Well, uh, all I remember is pure hatred towards it after seeing...." Tears formed at the corners of my eyes.

I would have bawled, if not for Chiron putting his hand on my shoulder. "It's alright, Camila, he is in a better place of his being."

"I never got to even say bye.."

"Camila..."

"Or even tell him thank you...."

"Miss Nixon-"

"Or even say I was sorry for all the hurtful things I said and did!" At this point, tears were streaming down my face.

Chiron frowned, turning away, looking farther in the distance. "Cammy, perhaps you would be better off with a clear mind." He faced me. "I know of an Athena child who would gladly accept your company."

As we entered the camp grounds once more, Chiron stopped. "I shall go find the half-blood. Wait here, young one," he said as he trotted off to gods know where.

"Young one," I muttered. Not like I had a problem with Chiron, I just didn't like that description. I sighed, grabbed a goblet from my cabin's table and mumbled, "Diet Coke."

I took a sip, and was surprised to hear giggling. I looked away from my drink and found myself facing a book. Well, someone behind a book. I frowned, knowing the voice was laughing at me. I peeked over the cover to see a girl about 15, adjust her thick glasses.

She blushed when she noticed me staring. "Oh, I'm sorry," she whispered, "I was just thinking how you could have been a daughter of Dionysus."

I gave a puzzled look, "Why are you whispering? And how does sighing and ordering a Diet Coke remind you of that wine dude?"

Thunder shook the grounds. The girl bit her lip, and quickly tied her wavy brown hair in a ponytail. "It would be wisest not to refer the god of wine by 'the wine dude,'."

I sat back and folded my arms. "Why not? What will it do? You act like like you know the guy."

She fixed her stormy grey eyes at me, a little irritated. "I do know that specific god. Well, I did. He used to be the camp director, while I first started here-"

In the distance, Pollux waved at me as I did the same. "Uhhh, do continue."

"Er, anyways....I've been here four years, while the wars were raging. When Percy Jackson saved us...." She trailed off, with a far out look in her eyes. She blushed again and cleared her throat. "My, um, step brother in-law."

That caught my attention. "W-wait, what? You can't possibly mean the Percy Jackson is your step brother in-law!" It turned out to be a little too harsh.

She looked away, "Yes, I'm related to his girlfriend, Annabeth Chase."

"Well, uh, technically we are all related with the gods and all so-"

"I am Annabeth's step sister."

"Oh." I mused. She took off her glasses and neatly lay them in a small case. "By the way, do you just like wearing glasses or what?"

She shrugged, "Just like wearing them to read, ya know." She turned the book's page. "I can see more clearly, opens my eyes a little better, so I can stretch my imagination."

I couldn't see her expression behind the book. I was beginning to wonder if I was the one asking too many questions. Either I was annoying her or plain out boring her to death. Maybe both.

I asked, "Hey, uh, we never even got to say our names or anything, so-"

Then she put her book down. At first, I thought she was gonna smack me with it. The next second it looked like she was giving it to me as an offering. I mean, she didn't look mad or anything, instead she grinned and put out her hand. Reluctantly, I shook it.

"Emma Walker, daughter of Athena, special strategist." She beamed.

"Well, Emma Walker," I smirked, "I'm Cammy Nixon, daughter of Apollo, crazy hydra slayer.
