Kabanata 49 - Unplanned

Sometimes everything might not go as how you planned it.

"Are you sure that you will come back to the Philippines?"

Naputol ang aking pag-iisip at napatingin ako ngayon kay Dad na papalapit sa akin. Nakita ko kung paano ito nahirapan dahil sa kanyang wheelchair kaya lumapit na ako sa kanya upang tulungan siya.

"Yeah," sabi ko. Ayokong sabihin pa sakanya ang dahilan ngunit alam kong alam na rin naman niya kung bakit.

Tumingin sa akin ito, "Revenge isn't the answer, son."

How can he say that? He's one of the best basketball players in the country ngunit ngayon ay hindi na siya makakalaro. Paano niya naaatim na sira na ang pangarap niya?

If dad can't seek for his revenge, then I will.

"Nakatingin ka na naman sa litrato niya," biglang sabi ni Dad.

Sinara ko agad ang aking laptop ng mahuli nya akong tumitingin sa litrato ng babaeng anak ng mga Ynez. Aurora Vanessa Ynez.

I don't know why am I so drowned with this girl. Her baby blue eyes really caught my attention. She looks like she's a very nice girl, but all my impressions are being erased by the fact that she is an Ynez.

For the past years, I always search about the Ynez family. They are the reason about not just dad's misery but our whole family. Matapos ang ginawa ni Timothy Ynez sa aking ama ay wala nang balitang lumabas patungkol sakanya. Maybe they're living a quiet life as well and they don't deserve it.

That was the reason why I didn't even hesitated to come back to the country.

"Jon, kindly bring this to our neighbor," utos sa akin ni mom. Tamad akong tumayo at kinuha ang iniluto nito.

Luckily, our neighbors just arrived ngunit papasok na ito sa kanilang bahay kaya't agad kong pinindot ang doorbell.

It was a little bit dark but I saw a girl walk towards their gate and when she opened it there it fully registered me. It's Aurora.

Her baby blue eyes stared at me. It was like a dream for me after years of looking at her afar.

"Done checking on me?" Sabi ko dahil napapatagal na ang pagtingin niya sa akin.

I want to be so rude to her, but I can't...

"Our family just moved in, we're waiting for your family awhile ago. Here's some tilona," I simply said upang makaalis na rin agad.

And then she laughed. That was another reason why I can't hate her. Her laugh is majestic.

"It's tinola not tilona."

I'm fascinated on how beautiful her emotions are but I kept fighting myself to show any of mine.

She thanked and teased me about the tilona or tilona, and I don't really care. I just wanted to leave in front of her because I might lose in this act.

"Thank you. I'm Daniel, Daniel Jones Ruiz," I said mentioning my whole name waiting for any reaction from her but she didn't reacted. There was no unnecessary facial movements from her as if she didn't know our surname, Ruiz. It was a mystery to me.

She mentioned her name as we shook our hands. "I prefer Jon," I said seriously. Trying to raise a fact again that I'm Jonas Ruiz's son. But again, she was not shocked.

"You're weird Jon. By the way, nagtatagalog ka naman pala," she simply answered. So I just looked weird to her, huh. Maybe she haven't had the enough time to fully register who am I.
