"Liv."

"Livia."

"Liiiiviiiaaaaaaaa."

A hand on my shoulder made me jump back in surprise. I swiftly turned around to see Avery behind me, huffing. The hallway was almost empty now, except for some students who were staying behind to work on

The red haired girl looked puzzled as I smiled at her.

"You scared me," I accused.

"I didn't mean to, but am glad to do so. Why didn't you answer? I've been calling you since forever."

"You mean like five minutes?"

"Three. Still."

"It was two wasn't it?"

"Yeah. Why were you so spaced out? Is the orchestra exhausting?" She raised a brow, walking along with me.

"I guess it is."

"Where are you going anyway? Volunteer work?"

"Yeah. I have to pick up a script for drama class."

"I'll go with you." She glanced around. "Where's Al?"

"I don't know," I muttered.

"Wait, is he the reason why you're so down? Ugh that jerk."

"No, its fine."

"No its not."

"Why are you getting mad?" I laughed.

"Of course I would get mad. You're my friend."

"We're friends, aren't we, Livia Walter?"

"We are?"

Avery turned on her heels, a scrutinizing glance thrown my way.

"I thought that was clear already. Or do you not-"

"No no no no. Its not that."

"Then what is it?"

I sighed. It might be a good idea to tell someone afterall.

"Back when I was in high school, I had friends."

The red haired girl looked more confused than before.

"Uh...Oookay? "

"I didn't really know how to make any, so in middle school I was a loner. In high school, I," I paused, tsking a deep breath, "I tried to. I would take them out to eat, to hang out, pay for clubs and all.. I used money to keep them close because I didn't know any other way to do so."

Avery's familiar blue eyes flickered with sadness. With pity. Pretending not to see that, I continued.

"Even when I overheard the fact that they were just sticking by me for the money, I didn't stop. With Deon, I didn't have to." I smiled bitterly, letting out a light chuckle. "To be honest I'm not sure why he chose to be friends. I'm not sure how you guys chose to be my friends."

"So that's why." The red haired girl nodded, her eyes ignited with blue fire. "Well, you're not getting rid of me anytime soon."

A familiar grin appeared and this time, I found myself smiling back.

"So what's the deal with Al?"

"What do you mean?"

"Let's just say that his usual 'stay-away-from-me' aura has gotten worse"

"I guess he's not talking to anyone either."

"Not if you count 'chocolate. Ate. Class. Home' as talking."
