"What medicine?"
"The medicine you just took."
"Cold medicine."
The lie rolled off my tongue with ease, which made me wonder how many times I would have to hide and lie to be able to do it this easily.
"You have a cold?" His voice was laced with worry and surprise, making me hope for things I couldn't have.
Its just like that scene from the tv show.
"That's the reason people take cold meds for," I replied sarcastically in an attempt to hide how flustered I was with mere words.
"I didn't mean it like that."
"Okay."
The silence hung in there for a moment which made me think he had gone.
This was for the best. We can't get involved in each other's lives when mine didn't have any guarantee.
A cold hand on my forehead made me flinch in surprise and back away a bit.
"What are you doing?"
"Checking your temperature."
Damn those green eyes looking like moonlit forest at night. I averted my gaze, hiding my the blush creeping it's way on my face.
"I- I'm fine."
"You have a fever."
"I know. I took medicine."
"You still went on stage with that fever. Did you even eat?"
Why do you care?
"Yes." Though I vomited it all out.
"Did you sleep?"
"I told you, I'm fine."
"But-"
"Why?" I asked in a whisper, holding my knees to my chest.
Much to my dismay, he sat down next to me.
"Why what?"
"Why are you.. being like that?"
He raised a brow, clearly confused.
"You told me to leave you alone." The mention of the fact made him look away. I continued, "you wanted me to leave you alone. Now that I did as you wanted, why are you here being all... nice to me?"
I could never figure out the enigma that you are, Alan.
He didn't respond, choosing to perhaps ignore what I said altogether. I sighed and stood up to leave. I had better go home and prepare to go to the hospital tommorow. Maybe I'll eventually get some sleep. That is, if I didn't collapse on the bed first.
"Livia, wait."
"Congrats," I said with a smile. "You can finally play. Your brother would've been proud."
Remembering his previous words I added, "of course, that's up to you to believe. But.. it was nice to see you play like that again. I'll get going now."
"Wait," Alan said, grabbing onto my wrist and turning me around.
"Sorry." He let go once he realised what he had done. "but I really need you to listen. Will you let me talk?"
"Go ahead."
He motined me to sit down and we sat again side by side he just as we had on the first night we met.
