40. Taehyung: I Would Have Never Thought

Taehyung's POV

It started a while ago and it wasn't bad at first just small amounts, but as time went on I had nothing else to ease the stress so it became a regular thing. I didn't mean for it to become a thing but it did and the worst part is that none of the others know and I plan to keep it that way. I sneak off to do it and then the body spray to cover the smell. As a singer I know how bad it is for me and I know Jin would have a canary if he found out, but we all have our stuff. I don't remember what the initial step into me smoking cigarettes was but it happened. I had planned on keeping it to myself, and I had until today. We were in dance practice when everything went down. I was dancing when suddenly I started coughing and I couldn't stop, I have felt unwell all day but it was brushed aside. Anyways I am having this coughing fit and Jin happens to feel that I have a fever and asks for my other symptoms.

"I am really tired and I wasn't a and dont feel hungry and my chest hurts, and now the coughing along with the fever." I tell him and he nods and then turns to Yoongi.

"I think that we should take him to the doctor." Jin says and Yoongi shakes his head a little.

"I think it's just a cold." Yoongi replies and Jin just sighs.

"Okay, but Tae if you start feeling any worse please let us know." Jin tells me and I nod. Little by little throughout the rest of the day I started to feel worse, and I didnt say anything and dinner time comes and I am pushing food around my plate, not hungry.

"Tae you need to eat." Namjoon tells me and I shake my head.

"No, I am not hungry." I explain and Jin comes over to me and puts his hand on my forehead.

"You feel warmer than earlier, let me take your temperature." Jin says as he walks to the cabinet and gets the thermometer. It is dead silence as we wait for the thermometer to signify it is done. 10 seconds later the thermometer is pulled from my mouth and Jin sighs. "Your temp is a little high, are you feeling any worse than earlier?" He asks and I give him a small nod.

"Why didn't you say anything?" Jimin asks and I shrug and before I know it I am pulled to my feet and being pushed out the door.
"Where are we going?" I ask Jin and Yoongi and they look at me.

"To the doctor so we can get rid of whatever this is quickly." Yoongi explains and the three of us head to the clinic.

Yoongi's POV

I am sitting here and I can't help but think about the fact that Taehyung has been unwell all day and hasn't said anything that is unlike him. We get to the clinic and Taehyung gets called back and me and Jin are in the waiting room.

"Why didn't he tell us?" Jin asks and I shrug. We sit in silence for another 15 minutes and Taehyung comes walking out with the doctor following him.

"So?" I ask and Taehyung shrugs.

"We caught it early so I think we can treat it quickly but he has the beginning symptoms of pneumonia and I gave him some antibiotics and he should be okay in a couple of days, if he isn't bring him back in." The doctor explains and me and Jin nod and the doctor starts walking away before turning back to face us.

"Oh and Taehyung dont forget what I told you about quitting smoking." He says and turns and walks away. I hear that I know what my face is doing but when I see Jin's face I am terrified because I have never seen him look like that.

"Tae what did he mean quit smoking." Jin asks in a raised voice causing goosebumps to form on my arms.

"I, uh. It's, um." Tae stutters and I sigh.

"Tae when did you start smoking?" I ask him and he shrugs and whispers.

"What was that?" Jin asks in a louder voice.

"I don't know, like the beginning of the year." Taehyung replies and I see Jin look like he is about to have a meltdown.

"Tae, why did you start smoking?" Jin asks, anger dripping from his words.

"It was a stress relief I am going to stop." Taehyung tells us and I sigh again.

"Let's go home and deal with this there." I tell them and we get back to the car, we stop and get Taehyung's medicine and head home and the whole ride home is awkward silence and I can see that Jin is still angry. We get home and Jin gets out of the car slamming the door and walking to his room and slamming his bedroom door.

"What's up with him?" Namjoon asks and I turn and look at Taehyung and he looks down at the floor.

"What is going on?" Jungkook asks. I turn to Taehyung again and push him closer to the group of our other bandmates.

Namjoon's POV

I cant believe what I am hearing, Taehyung started smoking. He is a singer he knows better, I can't help but feel myself get angry, but I understand where he is coming from with the stress relief. I just can't believe he did it. I am happy that he is going to quit because that is going to be the best for his health, but I saw how angry Jin was and I don't know how we are going to get him to move past this. I walked up to Jin's bedroom and knocked on the door.

"Jin hyung, can I come in?" I ask and I hear him mutter something, I open the door and I see him sitting on his bed.

"Hyung, why are you so angry?" I ask him and she shakes his head.
"It's not that I am angry as much as it is that I feel guilty like I wasn't there for him to have someone to talk to when he was stressed." Jin explains and I nod. " I am the oldest and I am supposed to keep you guys safe and by him smoking that is not me doing what I am supposed to." He continues to explain and I nod again.

"Hyung I understand that you feel you have to protect us but we are adults and Tae made an adult decision when he started, I am just curious as to how he has kept it to himself so long." I tell him and he nods. We finish calming down and head back downstairs and I see Taehyung throwing a pack of cigarettes away.
"Thank you Tae for quitting and if you ever feel stressed or just need to talk or have an urge for the cigarettes, come and talk to us." Jin says and pulls him into a hug and we all group hug.
"Tae how did you keep it a secret for so long?" Hoseok asks and we all audibly agree to wanting the answer, so he explains it, all of it and we all just sit together.
