19. Yoongi: Can't Hear My First Love

Namjoon's POV

Something is off with Yoongi, he has been quiet the last couple days and I am a little worried that he might be going through one of his depressive episodes, but it seems different. At the beginning of this week we went to rehearsal for our concert that night and he was saying that his throat was hurting but he sucked it up and rehearsed anyways and we did out mic checks and all that as at lunch he took some medicine. I asked if he was feeling better before the concert and he nodded, and he performed like he was feeling better, but towards the end he started to hold his ear. He pulled his in-ear out and was rubbing it as if to soothingly massage it, but then he put his in-ear back in and he seemed fine. I thought that it was just a little bit of discomfort from the mic headset or the in-ear, we are performers we all know that struggle but he has seemed off since then. Yesterday I had to repeat everything I said to him , like he was listening, it was frustrating and today he hasn't said a word to anyone. We are heading to rehearsal and mic check since we have another concert tonight. We are starting with Wings and then moving into Blood, Sweat, and Tears, and then then running down the solo songs. Then we will do the medley, then Lost for the vocal line and then Hoseok, Yoongi and I will do Cypher 4 and then end the show with 2! 3!. We start rehearsal and everything seems fine and then we get to the solo part and everyone is doing great, Yoongi is next and he walks on to practice First Love but half way through he stops and before he stopped his timing was off. Me and Jin walk up to him.

"Hey I know that your timing was a little off and that's why you stopped, do you want to start over?" I ask and he doesn't even look at me. "Hyung?" He finally looks up.

"Oh hey Namjoon, whats up?" He asks and I am dumbfounded, did he just ignore me? Before I could respond he explains himself. "Sorry I stopped because I couldn't hear anything so I could tell what part I was at." I look at him in confusion.
"Hyung is your in-ears not working?" I ask and again no response. I am frustrated by this point so I take the in-ears out of his hands and put them as close to my ear as possible without actually putting them in my ear. "Can you play something into Yoongi's in-ears please?" I called out and the sound manager does and I hear wings start playing. "Hyung, your in-ears are working fine, so I don't know why you couldn't hear anything." I say earning me yet again no response. I am starting to get angry at the fact that Yoongi was ignoring me and Jin could tell.

"Yoongi?" Jin asks and Yoongi doesn't even look up and I go to say something about the disrespect when Jin waves me off.
"Yoongi?" He says in a soft voice and puts his hand on Yoongi's shoulder, Yoongi looks up. "Yoongi are you alright?" Jin asks and Yoongi looks confused.

"Hyung what did you say, I can't really hear you." Yoongi says. Jin turns to me and I see the look of concern and fear.

"Namjoon go get a medic and Hoseok, but don't tell the maknaes what's going on, I don't want to scare them. I nod and I am off on my quest into the backstage area.

Hoseok's POV

I am chilling with Jimin just talking as I see Jungkook and Taehyung curled into each other sleeping on the couch and Namjoon comes walking in at a fast pace.

"Hyung, I need your help with something on stage." He says and I look at him a little confused, but get up anyway.

"Hyung, do you want me to come help too?" Jimin asks Namjoon and Namjoon just shakes his head.

"No that's okay Jimin, I think me and Hobi have got it but thanks for the offer." He tells Jimin and now I know something is wrong because we don't really turn down Jimin's help. I follow Namjoon out of our waiting room and he turns to me. "I have to go find a medic, but go meet Jin hyung out on stage he will explain everything." I stand there shocked, what is going on and why do we need a medic? I walk out on stage to see Jin standing there with his hand rubbing Yoongi's back and Yoongi crying. I run up to them when I see the tears.

"Hyung what is going on, why is Yoongi crying and why is Namjoon looking for a medic and turning down Jimin's help?" I ask as I pull Yoongi into me in a hug and I just rock him back and forth and shush him and whisper to him, but he isn't calming down like he normally does. "Hyung, why isn't he calming down?" I ask now panicked, I know Namjoon expressed to us that he thought Yoongi was going through an episode.

"Hobi, calm down, he's not calming down because he can't hear you, that's why we need a medic and we refused Jimin's help, I don't want to scare the maknaes and Yoongi is crying because he is scared." Jin explained, I was about to respond when Namjoon returned with a medic and Yoongi was pulled from my grip and the medic started looking in his ears.

"I explained everything before we got out here." Namjoon explained seeing Jin and I, confused.

"He has a double ear infection, there is a lot of liquid and they are slightly swollen so I will have someone take him to the clinic to get treatment and medicine, but he can't perform until he is better." The medic tells us and we nod and thank him and he walks away and our manager walks one stage. I pull out my phone and type up what is happening in my notes and show it To Yoongi, he reads it and gets a sad look on his face but nods and walks away with our manager.

Yoongi's POV

I am so scared, I am worried that I ruined my hearing for good and that I won't be able to be an idol anymore. My ears hurt so bad, at the start of this week it was just a sore throat but then I noticed my ear start hurting and then I just started to not being able to hear things but I figured if I just pushed through it, it would go away. But here I am not being able to hear, not being able to perform and on nasty antibiotics. I am back at the stadium watching the show on a screen backstage, I have been back from the doctor for about a half hour none of the boys know I am back yet.

Jimin's POV

I am a little hurt, I offered to help Namjoon and Hoseok, but Namjoon refused. I sit in my phone now being by myself because the other two are sleeping, when Jin walks in.

"Hey Jiminie can you wake those two, it's time to get ready for the show." He asks me and I nod standing up to wake up the two maknaes.

"Hey guys it's time to get ready." I tell them and they both stir, slowly waking up. We all head to the dressing and make up room and start getting ready. I am putting my shoes on when I notice Yoongi's rack untouched and I look around and start counting members to realize we are one short. "Where is Yoongi hyung?" I ask no one in particular and Hoseok just sighs.

"Yoongi hyung isn't going to be performing with us for a little bit." He says and goes back to getting dressed. I sit there shocked and I start to panic, I know he has been acting strange, but he didn't quit did he? I can feel my breath catch in my throat and I can myself start wheezing which Jungkook notices too.

"Jimin hyung?" Jungkook asks in concern coming over to see if I am alright, just then Namjoon and Jin walk back into the main room from the little closet where all the extra stuff was put Jin notices me and comes running over.

"Jimin it's alright, I need you to breathe with me, give me your hand please." he says and I place my left hand in his hands and he starts tracing on it with his fingers. "What the hell happened Jungkook?" Jin asks in frustration.

"I don't really know we were getting ready and Jimin asked where Yoongi hyung is and Hobi hyung said he would be performing for a while and then this happened." Jungkook explained, all the boys knew about my panic attacks and this isn't the first time it has happened.

"Hoseok, I told you to let me explain it." Jin said in his mom voice and turns back to me.

"Jiminine honey, it's okay everyone is okay Yoongi just is sick and they said he can't perform until he is better and we will help him." Jin says to me in a soft voice and I feel myself start calming down. I can finally breathe again and Namjoon hands me a bottle of water, I drink some.

"What's got Yoongi hyung so sick?" I ask and Jin sighs."He has a double ear infection so he can't really hear anything but he is at the doctor with our manager now and they will help him, but for now we have a show to do." Jin responds, I nod and stand up. Knowing that Yoongi is going to be okay and he hadn't left was a relief and I am ready to perform.
