"be careful, understood?" Jooyoung smiles as her brother pat her head lightly. The smile on her face never fades away as she walks out from her home, feeling delighted for some reason. There, Kim Jooyoung, the girl that is interested in studying medicine, is desperate to know how to cure the disease that killed her mother.

As she hops her way through the library, her jet black hair bounces on her shoulders. Her also black orbs twinkle in excitement. And her natural pink plump lips, curved into a smile. The soft 'ching' of the bell satisfies her, as she pushes the wooden door gently.

A guy with broad shoulders, beautiful eyes, a perfect nose line, and a small face comes into her view. His hands were firmly holding a book. He is too immersed in what he is reading, that his brows meet each other. Jooyoung greeted the boy using his real name— Dongmin.

Hearing that made him flinch, almost dropping the thick book. Out of embarrassment, He clears his throat and regained his posture. He breathed out a frustrated sigh before going back to his book. "I told you to call me Eunwoo.." she snickered. Dongmin, or Eunwoo, smiled while shaking his head.

Jooyoung leaned at the counter, trying to decipher the book that made Eunwoo too busy. Sadly, she couldn't. Eunwoo closed it quickly, making the small specks of dust rise and fall slowly in a graceful way, directly at Jooyoung's face. Her nose is already used to its 'old' smell, but the dust... no.

"Do you need something?" Standing up, he stacked the book back to its proper place. "I need you." "Pardon?" Joyoung snapped her head, opposite Eunwoo's direction. Idiot... She closed her eyes tightly, pursing her lips. "I... I need you to get that book." her fingers trembled a bit, pointing at the highest shelf she could use as an excuse. Pointing at the book with a red leather cover.

Jooyoung will always thank the helping boy, but isn't she abusing the kindness of Eunwoo?

He sighed, smiling at the girl. "I never thought you would also have an interest in pirates."  Her smile faded, flinching a bit, with that, She breathed out a questioning sound. As Eunwoo deciphered the puzzled look of the other, He climbs down, showing a book with a simple title in golden linings— 'Pirates'.

"what chapter are you in already?" Eunwoo opened the book, brushing his slender fingers at every page he flips. Jooyoung couldn't answer. The excuse she thought that could help, just made things more complicated. She started thinking of another excuse.

"C..Chapter," she stammered. "Chapter 10?" Eunwoo, rested his left elbow at the ladder, looking so serious. "silly." He ruffled her hair,
Enough to destroy her hair. "this is a pirate list, or diary, something..." Jooyoung gulped. "remember the time I told you that my father was a Royal Navy before?." Eunwoo faintly smiled.

"can I read?" Jooyoung asked, without the nervous or mischievous tone. Jooyoung was filled with curiosity, as soon as she heard the word 'pirate'. Eunwoo felt a bit surprised. He reluctantly gave the book. The girl gently took the book away from his hands.

She placed the book at the table, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Bringing out thin glasses from her pocket. Eunwoo stared at the girl, confused. Why is she curious? He asked himself. The girl acted differently as soon as he introduced the book.

The book is imprinted with the names of pirates, the ones before and the ones who are still roaring at the seas. "I think we should put that back, father might—" Jooyoung didn't listen, instead, she told the young man to wait. She flipped the pages of the thick book a ton of times already, but none of those satisfied her curiosity.

"Dongmin." Eunwoo, together with Jooyoung brought their heads up with horror lingering in their eyes. Before Eunwoo's father could do anything, Joyoung hurriedly searched for the thing she needed.

Her lips tug a small smile, A—

The book was shut closed. A hand full of visible veins blocks her view. Her eyes were furious, her forehead creased into a frustrated frown. She was panting heavily. She stared at Eunwoo's father. "That information is confidential." Jooyoung scoffed. "aren't we, citizens, supposed to know these kinds of things?" Eunwoo's father shook his head. "not everything, lady."

Jooyoung's Jaw clenched. Eunwoo pats her back gently, trying to calm the nerves throbbing just by the side of her head. "and why are you so interested in this kind of thing?" she slowly calmed down, grabbing a bunch of her hair in the realization of what she did before. She bowed, muttering a sorry, instead of answering the question. what were you thinking, you idiot?

She eats her nails, thinking, while the exit from the library. Just by the time she was clouded with thoughts, a big flashy ball comes into her view, passing her face, shooting exactly at the place she was before.

Bang!

The loud bang deafens her, like a thunderclap that always makes her heart jump. By the strong impact, the girl was thrown to the ground. The chaos was loud, but she couldn't hear it, as if she just turned deaf— no.

Her trembling hands reached for her left ear, and to her horror, velvety blood covers her fingertips and trickles down in between her fingers. She lost the ability to hear by her left ear, she should at least feel a bit grateful that she only lost one of her ears.

Her eyes water at the sight of the library she loved. The rectangular bricks fall down, one by one. Some are completely destroyed, powdered. Every book lying on the ground is in horrendous flames.

Eunwoo...

Dead...?

She wanted to go and hug her best friend tightly, cry while he is in her arms, but no, She was blinded by shock and panic. And even if she can, the fire would also swallow her. "Get everything you pleased!" a deep voice rings, along with the loud bangs of cannons; shooting at the small houses, stalls— Well, let's just say everything it could destroy.

The huge ship, swallowed the small fragile figure of hers by its intimidating shadow. Chest heaves high and low in a fast pace she couldn't imagine she could. Seems like panic, no, not like, she is in full panic. She runs.
